This week was Sib Week in Morrow House! Every night starting Tuesday we had a curfew of midnight and when we woke up in the morning, little gifts were left at our doors. On the last day, we the little sibs left our big sibs a gift outside our doors for them to wear at the Ice Cream Sib Reveal on Sunday night. I ended up having two big sibs, one sibster (someone with the same big sibs) and one grand Sib (the big sib of my big sibs). Overall, it was a fun week full of mystery and surprise! :)

Big Sib, Little Sib
This is another one of Smith’s many traditions--Big sib, Little sib. It’s pretty self-explanatory, but basically it’s when new Smithies, the Little, get paired up with another Smithie, the Big.
The whole purpose of this tradition is to provide a resource to new Smithies within the house community. Big Sibs are generally there for you if you need a little guidance or advice in the house and really breaks the barriers you may face adjusting to a new environment.
This usually happens during the Fall semester and depending on the house, there will be roughly a week or so of gifting and clues. This is to welcome you to the community and will lead up to a reveal, that may happen during another Smith traditon--Tea.
Its a super exciting time that many Smithies enjoy and sometimes these connections may lead to lasting friendship for the rest of your Smith career and beyond!
Below are some pictures during my experiences with Big Sib, Little Sib!
Yet another one of my favorite Smith customs is the "Big Sib/Little Sib" tradition. Within the first month of classes, each first year/transfer student is paired with a returning student of the same house to act as a their "Big Sib" not only for the week, but also for the remaining years to follow! Throughout the week (some point in September), Big Sibs will secretly leave small gifts for their Little outside their doors, such as candy, music, and most (and best) of all, complimentary wall-art. At the end of the week, Bigs Sibs shed their masks of secrecy at the "Reveal Tea," and eventually enjoy their own week of Big Sib appreciation later on in the year. This year, I was lucky to have such a cool, caring, and overall awesome Big to lead me into my first year at Smith, and I can't wait for our Sib family to grow in the years to come!
