misconception: jeremy’s feelings for christine aren’t genuine
lune hates the bmc fandom : a series
Jeremy Heere is absolutely infatuated with Christine Canigula.Â
It’s the driving force for most of his actions within the musical. He wants Christine to notice him, he wants to be someone in her eyes ( ‘ I just wanna know that Christine is aware I’m alive’ ), but his anxiety and low self esteem keeps him from approaching her on his own. Christine is inadvertently the catalyst for Jeremy’s decision in getting a squip, her brushing him aside in favor of Jake ( Jeremy’s perspective, not necessarily Christine’s ) is the push to get him low enough to consider something as outrageous as a supercomputer pill that makes you better from his biggest bully. Even after Jeremy takes the squip and his goals shift ( from Christine to popularity ), Christine remains his biggest motivator– believing if he was someone like Jake, he’d be the kind of guy she would be interested in. Without Christine, without Jeremy being head over heels crushing on Christine, Be More Chill wouldn’t exist as we know it.Â
And honestly, a girl like Christine is exactly the kind of person Jeremy would fall for! He’s a kid who’s desperate to obtain approval from his peers, yet the people that are first and foremost in his mind ( Michael and Christine ) throughout the story are those who appear completely unbothered and are unabashedly themselves. They aren’t the traditionally popular kids, they’re geeky and goofy with obvious quirks and interests that would be considered lame to the average high schooler, but they’re passionate and outgoing, and their personalities are loud. They’re themselves, completely and entirely, no matter what others may think about them. Those are qualities Jeremy very obviously admires ( re, the play with michael, ‘well, I’m jealous you don’t!’ ), the kind of traits he wishes he had, the traits that the squip teaches him to feign when he’s under its influence.
It’s a crush and only a crush ( within canon events ), but Jeremy’s feelings towards Christine are real and genuine and run deep. She’s the kind of person he admires, the kind of person he wishes he could be, and she remains the motivation for most of his actions throughout the months that the story takes place over.Â
I absolutely HATE when people make fun of me for finding information on the internet like broski I found cool information and I shared it, who gives a shit it was from a Tumblr post, and it's not even that I say stuff like that often?? I bought up the roots of words in a specific discussion about the roots of words and apparently I'm a weirdo for mentioning something that's not from a book
I'm not religious
But people who assume anyone who believes in anything to be extremist and/or fundamentalist are the fucking worst. You might as well as say all black people are stupid or all Jewish people are greedy. Stop fucking stereotyping and leave everyone alone.
