L A R G E. S C A L E. I’ve always been a bit intimidated by creating large scale work. It’s always seemed pretty daunting but recently I have had the urge to scale up my work. Maybe it’s something to do with all the extra time I seem to have or the more relaxed pace of life right now. Don’t get me wrong, I am still busy. I can always make sure I stay busy…sometimes this is not a good thing. But, I am busy doing the things I love to do. I have found that because I have the studio just for me I am able to leave work out, not have to pack it up every afternoon and maybe that’s given me the impetus to create work that’s much bigger without not knowing what I’ll do with it when I have an art class later that day. The main spur though was looking through @she_curates_ feed I stumbles upon yesterday. She is showcasing some really wonderful womxn artists and one of these artists is @anna_s_woodward I was so taken aback by the scale of some of her pieces. The great shot of Anna sitting in a chair and her work towering above her really moved me. So, yesterday I went big…not as big as Anna’s work…that scale needs to be taken incrementally but much much bigger than my normal comfortable table size. I have noticed that I feel much looser in my marks and am experimenting with mixing pigments and the contours of the painting. I feel good about this shift and its given me a new urge to paint again after a bit of a slump recently. BIG thanks to Mollie the force behind @she_curates_ and Anna for her gorgeous large scale work that has given me the confidence to try something new. I am looking forward to the journey! #largescale #bigartwork #artoftheday #artcontemporary #artwatchers #artspotlight #women #womenartists #female #femaleartist #femaleartists #contemporaryart #naturalpigment #londonpigment #londonartist #newjourney #artcolector #journeys #mountains #ochre #mixingpigments #handmadewatercolour (at London, United Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCa5JGOH-EF/?igshid=1efzy6xsx44kx
