Sollux and the Helmsman are brothers*, the helmsman’s half-brother (an unclaimed grub) is the helpsman, who is mituna’s dad
the helmsman and the helpsman grew up friends but didn’t know they were actually sign brothers, just considered each other brothers
the helmsman became a helmsman without ever meeting sollux but when a grub popped up at the caverns with the same sign as the helmsman the helpsman found him
the helpsman was already caring for his kid mituna at the time. mituna and sollux lived together for a while and the helpsman told sollux stories about his brother
since the helpsman was always working they were mainly looked after by the helpsman’s childhood lusus, a pretty old biclops. that biclops’ biclops son would go with sollux when he had to move because the helpsman wanted to send him to a different private school (that he couldn’t afford for mituna)
