rochusstraße // köln bickendorf
the plain residential building of the post-war era right next to the rochuskirche is a rather plain building. the only remarkable thing about this house is the design of the gable wall with a picture of the church's patron saint as well as geometric shapes and the cologne coat of arms. while st. roch's is very modern with partly abstract geometric shapes as a background, the rest of the façade design is more classical. i think the design is very successful, and the surrounding area is otherwise very poor in art in architecture. unfortunately, the ravages of time are gnawing away at this façade, so it is to be feared that it will soon be renovated and the work of art will disappear.
