Big Hero 6 Appreciation Week: Day 5 - Favorite Parallel
“This won’t change anything. Trust me... I know.”
From all the parallels in BH6, this would be my favorite. It shows how much Hiro and Callaghan are similar: two geniuses who suffered the loss of a loved one, and who are obssessed in avenging them. But yet, this parallel happens after Hiro realizes the consequences of his actions (thanks to Baymax). It shows that not only Hiro and Callaghan are similar, but it gives us a glimpse of what Hiro could’ve become if he hadn’t have Baymax and the rest of the others to support him: Callaghan. A man with no one to hold him back from falling into madness, bitterness and a destructive path of revenge. Also, the best part of that parallel is that Hiro, who wanted this man dead the moment he discovered he was the cause of his brother’s death (and brushed his death off in his face), became even more determined to stop Callaghan after he said his daughter was gone because he UNDERSTANDS what he’s going through. He WANTS him to understand revenge isn’t the solution and that it won’t bring his daughter back, like it won’t bring Tadashi back for Hiro. But Callaghan is too obssessed with revenge to snap out of it. That parallel was good enough to compare and differency Hiro and Callaghan at once.
