Evangelist Billy Graham almost destroyed his career by getting too close to Richard Nixon. He regretted it for years, and remained fervently apolitical for the rest of his life. Over the years, weāve seen time and again that his son, fellow evangelist Franklin Graham, forgot that lesson. He has used his fatherās legacy to carry water for the religious right, to the point of merrily prostrating himself before The Messiah, Lord Donald Trump, The Most Merciful even though it was plainly obvious that Trump was a thug, a boor, and a bully.
Like nearly every other evangelical leader who bowed to Trump, Graham has lost any right to lecture the American people about morals, or nearly anything else. But time and again, Graham has shown that he forgot that memo. We got another reminder of this over the weekend, when Graham saw fit to warn us aboutāhorrors!āprogressive Christianity.
