sum - thereâs beauty in sadness and warmth in love, or harry loves his girl more than anything
tan talks too much - i had high hopes for what i could come up with for @bfharry âs boyfriendathon!, but unfortunately sadness really is that bitch who wonât let me be productive. so i used my last four brain cells to come up with whatever this little thing is. this is my first real writing post so if you are reading this, thank you! <3
Harry woke up slowly to a cold bed in a dark room. It was his own bedroom, of course. He squinted at the ceiling, sleep clouding his view of the many pictures heâd pasted up there over the years. As he came to, he shivered underneath the cozy duvet and felt around for his extra blanket, seeking warmth. Even in the darkness, everything about the room was familiar. That is, everything except for the warm spot beside him where the sheets were a little wrinkled and the faint, sweet smell of his girlâs face wash lingering in the air.
A pang of longing hit him suddenly. He selfishly wished that their first sleepover could have transpired under better circumstances. In a perfect world theyâd be giggling under the sheets, wrapped up in each other. Maybe some stolen kisses and whispered pillow talk before making sweet love first thing in the morning.
But of course, it wasnât a perfect world. And bad news never had good timing.
In spite of the sadness still looming in the room, Harry smiled fondly when he saw her cute sock clad feet outside on the balcony, slightly wet from the bits of snow left there. He sat up to see her with his blanket hanging bunched up over her shoulders and head craned upward at the stars. Stumbling through the darkness, he made his way to her side, right where he belonged.
Shivering, Harry gently reached out to grab her hand from behind. His fingers entwined with hers underneath the blanket and he immediately felt warmer. She looked at him and finally, he could see her pretty face in the moonlight, still stained with enough dried tears to make his heart break all over again. Harry felt a crushing heaviness on his chest as he moved to unravel the blanket and wrap it tighter around her, hugging her from behind to keep her warm. His heart raced as she leaned back into him, enveloping them both in a cocoon of love.
âHi angel,â the words fell off his lips. He felt her sigh as she relaxed against him, resting the back of her head on his chest.
Despite being pressed against each other, the weight of her emotions hung between them. The air was thick with her sadness. Harry felt the cold wind chill his skin and instinctively hugged her tighter, desperate to share his warmth with her.
âI canât sleep,â she replied after a few moments of comfortable silence, her sweet voice making his heart swell.
âCan I make you some tea?â
When she nodded, Harry gave her one more squeeze and pressed a delicate kiss on her cold temple before forcing himself to let go. He wanted nothing more than to hold her and rock her and let her cry and sob against him, but heâd come to learn that she sometimes preferred to be alone with her thoughts, with her emotions. He knew that she appreciated his loving embraces, but it was a delicate balance.
As he walked back inside, he heard her sock clad feet padding behind him. He paused and turned back to her as she hurried to catch up with him. She grabbed his hand with her own chilled fingers and looked up at him, eyes wide and glazed with unshed tears.
âCan I come with?â she asked softly, voice gentle and raspy.Â
Harry was certain he felt his chest actually, physically grow as the clinginess in her voice bypassed his ears and went straight to his heart. He squeezed her hand and gave her the most tender smile he could manage in response, determined to show her how much he adored her with his expression.
Harry rolled up his long sleeves to prepare the kettle while his girl watched him from her seat atop the counter, freeing his hands from his sweater paws. Like a moth to a lamp, he moved toward her and settled in front of her. It was dark in the kitchenâthe only light coming from the flame underneath the kettle and the moonlight streaming in through the window. Still, he could make out every lovely detail of her face while she was caged in his arms.
He watched her move her hands from her lap to wrap around his neck, gently tugging him closer until his hips were between her legs and their faces were only inches apart. Thoughts of her sadness and his own insecurities dissipated as he struggled to keep his hands on the counter and off her delightfully bare thighs. He met her eyes with his own, appreciating the way her eyelashes fell against her skin when she blinked, how her nose was still a little red from the cold, how her hair framed her face and body, how her lips look delectable and smooth and softâŚ
Suddenly, he couldnât help himself.
When he leaned in to her gently, the lightest pressure of lips on lips made his heart soar and body shiver, this time with pleasure instead of cold. She gasped lightly in surprise, pausing for only a moment before pulling him in more firmly. He melted into her hands as she rubbed at the curls on back of his neck and kissed him tenderly. Inhibitions long gone, Harryâs hands moved to her thighs on their own accord. The motion sent waves of heat through the both of them as he felt her skin against his undraped fingers, her lips against his. Lost in the euphoric feeling of her, he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her impossibly closer, both of them craving more.
A shrill whistle interrupted their embrace, forcing Harry to pull away from her. He let the kettle whine for a moment as they basked in the pleasure, holding each other nose to nose and laughing softly. The mellifluous sound of her laughter mixed with his own allowed a tinge of happiness to steep between them in the dark kitchen. Harry licked his lips to savor the taste of her as he pulled away to finish the tea. He felt her eyes on him as he worked, neither bothering to fight the smiles off their faces.
Harry grabbed two steaming mugs in one hand and entwined the other with his girlâs, leading her off the counter and to the sitting room. He motioned for her to sit on the loveseat while he lit the fireplace, slowly baking the room in a warm orange glow. He found the blanket sheâd discarded on the kitchen floor and brought it to the couch to wrap around both of them as she settled into his side. She sat sideways on his lap, head in his neck and both hands holding her mug, aromatic steam occupying the space between them.
âThank you,â she whispered, the soft vibrations of her voice tickling his throat.
âOf course, angel,â Harry replied. âHow are you feeling?â
âBetter,â she said, the ghost of a smile on her lips. âThanks to you.â
âIâd do anything for you,â Harry hummed, meaning every word.
And in spite of their imperfect world, he didnât think heâd ever been happier than he was thenâhis girl snuggled into his side in the middle of the night, both of them sipping tea and blanketed in the warmth of each otherâs unconditional love.
thank you again olivia for making boyfriendathon happen (and for just being super lovely) <3
You always did great under pressure, it was almost like that sort of environment drove you to do better, not that you agreed with this toxic work style, but it was something that came naturally to you. You always engaged in multiple things at once, to help keep your mind occupied, so that's what you were doing right now. Emails needed replies. PowerPoint decks to be checked and revised for upcoming meetings for the week, all while you were perusing through some new podcasts sent to you by a friend. You were good under pressure, you were quick on your feet to find a solution for the problems laid out in front of you, or that's what you thought..Â
The thing is, years of you filling your time to its maximum capacity, it may have slipped up that it was running you down physically and mentally. Your mind was always running, and so were you. But it wasn't like you weren't addressing the issue, after all, you did have your stress buddy/boyfriend, he kept you in check, reminded you to drink water, take a break when necessary, sometimes helped take some load off your shoulders when work got too taxing. It was just a bonus that you both worked in the same field. You both worked for different companies, respectively heading teams.Â
You often worked from home, and Harry prefered working from his office, so you had claimed your home office and spent quite a bit of time locked away in there. It was no surprise that you had lost track of time and forgotten to order in food for when he came back home. You checked your phone for any texts, and there it was.Â
H.Â
will be late, lovie.Â
don't forget to eat something xoÂ
Sighing, you locked your phone and went back to working and finishing some extra tasks on your weekly to-do list. A lot was running on your mind, so you made a mental note to check in with Harry tonight.Â
It was about 11 pm when you looked away from your PC having finished most of your work. You were still quite wired, so you decided to head out of your home office to try and do some light cleaning before Harry came back home. You were in the middle of emptying your mail drawer when you saw this blue envelope peeking out. It was the colour of your office stationery, so naturally, you opened it. What was odd about it though, was that it was for Harry. You didn't want to pry, but you were curious. So damn the consequences, you started reading it.Â
It was an offer letter for Harry to take on a department head position at your company, a title you had been working really hard to achieve. You couldn't believe what you were reading, your eyes blurry from tears pooling in them. You stopped reading and looked around for your phone, and you needed to speak with him and find out what was going on. Surely he knew, you both had discussed it at length, that if you needed your relationship to work, you needed to work at different organisations and that was that. It wasn't up for debate. Just as you were about to dial his number, the front door opened.Â
Harry walked in on you with tears in your eyes and the opened blue envelope in your hand. "Y/N, I can explain. Let's sit down please." He looked like he was desperate to reach out and touch you; he stayed away, though. You quietly moved on to stand on the side of your kitchen counter. He moved just as slowly and sat his bag down next to the barstools and took a seat on one.Â
"Okay, so you know how I've been feeling kind of done with the work that was coming in at my firm? Well, I thought that I could really use a change of pace. I hadn't acted on it though. I wanted to speak with you about it, obviously."Â
You were getting impatient "H, get to the point. Why is there an offer letter addressed to you, to be my boss in our mail?!" You had been thinking about speaking to management about a promotion; if that didn't work out, you had some other ideas, but this was definitely not how you wanted things to go. Â
Harry winced at your tone but continued, "Couple of weeks ago when I was out with Mitch and the gang, I ran into your boss Christy, and we talked, well I thought we were only talking, but it turned out to be an impromptu interview for the position they offered. Christy called me last week to discuss the details, but I wasn't sure so I asked her to send the terms to me on email, which I thought she would. I didn't know she was going to mail a hardcopy home, baby. Please Y/N you have to understand that I was going to decline the offer, but I just wanted to test the waters for a job change."Â
By the end of that explanation, you were fuming, at how blatantly your boss had sidelined you.  Not only that, she approached your boyfriend of all the people. You were mad at Harry for having persued the lead and having kept it from you. There were about ten other companies he could have gone to if he wanted a change of pace like he claimed. You were so mad that all you worked for had come down to nothing. Now it was creeping into your personal life too; your breathing was becoming ragged, you were trying to make sense of all the information thrown at your way.Â
"So what are you going to do now, H? You had to have taken a peek at the offer, and it certainly is a good jump from your previous position."Â
"Baby. which is why I wanted to talk to you about it, I do want to consider it, at least give it a thought, but not at the cost of a row between us. You have to know that, Y/N." he said. He was looking at you worriedly because he didn't want to cause a fight between you both.Â
You were on the verge of a panic attack; you could feel it bubbling in your chest, that coupled with how you hadn't eaten since lunch wasn't the best combination.Â
You placed the envelope on the counter with trembling hands and gripped the counter hard to calm yourself a little bit. You were getting lightheaded with all this clouding your mind, but you didn't let it show.Â
He tried to place his palm on the back of yours, to help you. He was mentally talking down all the steps of a panic attack because he knew you all too well and had been there to witness quite a few of your work-induced episodes. But you flinched away, as though he touch burnt you. You took a step back and stumbled a bit. "Love, are you okay? Please talk to me." He reached out again. Â This time, you looked up, with tears in your eyes, your struggle in trying to breathe becoming more apparent. He knew this was bad.
You took a shaky step to walk out of the kitchen and sit your self down on the couch, but you were feeling too hot, his gaze was following you. He was cautiously hovering, just close enough to hold you up if you needed it. He knew not to overstep, and anything could set you off. Â But he was wrong this time, and you really couldn't hold yourself up, what with the panic attack. You thought you were sinking to break your fall, but it was too late, you'd started seeing black spots, and there was no way you'd sit before you could lean on something.Â
He noticed that and jumped to catch you by your armpits, rest your head against his chest as he sank against the wall. Â He knew you would often feel lightheaded during a panic attack, but in all this time you'd never outright passed out. "Baby? Wake up please!"Â
He was trying not to panic, he laid you down carefully on the carpet and started rubbing your palms, it didn't work. So he rubbed the balls of your feet, and when that didn't do it, he rushed to the kitchen and brought out a glass of water. He dipped his fingers in the glass and gently splashed your face with some water. You didn't come to it immediately. But slowly he saw your eyes flutter open. He gently lifted your head, so it was laying on his lap.  He ran his hand over your forehead to move some stray hair.Â
"Y/N, are you okay?" he whispered, not wanting to startle you. You groaned "What happened? One second I was feeling too hot and now..."Â
"You passed out, when was the last time you ate, bunny?" He only called you that when you were sick. You remembered the fight almost immediately, and how mad you were before you passed out, you tried to sit up straight, to get away from him, but didn't make it too far. You were still very dizzy; he was still holding you, so you sat up with your knees supporting your head. He was looking at you with worry in his eyes; he ran his palm on your back to soothe you.Â
"Bunny, I'm really sorry, please let me bring you something to eat." Â You shook your head " I'm not hungry. H. Please leave me alone." Your voice cracked a little. You could feel yourself tearing up again.
"Oh, Bunny! you can be mad at me all you want, but we have to get something in that tummy."
"We will get back to  this fight right after you have eaten something."  You didn't move from your hunched over position. He helped you up and walked you to the couch, and you quietly laid down with your arm across your eyes. He sat on the floor, eye-level with you, turned around and got your bottle of water to offer it to you, "Here, why don't you take a sip? It'll help you regain some strength." You shakily took the bottle from his hand and took a sip.
He left you there to rest while he went to the kitchen to get you something to eat, decided on some toast because he knew you were prone to acid reflux if you went too long without eating. He occasionally called out to you checking if you were okay. Harry made the toast, brought it to you and sat down on the couch next to your feet.Â
"Bunny, come on."Â
"I'm very nauseous, Harry. I won't be able to keep it down." Nausea was a common symptom when you went long periods without eating. You did everything to avoid it by munching on small snacks, but you simply forgot on busy days like today. He took your other hand in his and started massaging it slowly, and he knew how much you liked that on a sick day.Â
"A few bites and then you'll feel better, I promise" He was desperate to get you to eat, if you didn't you'd be up all night throwing up. Â
You reluctantly sat up, he kept with the massage, and you picked up the toast and bit into it. It wasn't so bad. You both were quiet. You sat that there finished the toast and drank some water to wash it down.Â
"I'm leaving." You whisper broke the silence.
He looked at you bewildered "What?! Love, there has to be something I can do! Let me fix this."Â
"I'm not leaving -" Before you could finish the sentence, you knew what was coming, you rushed to the guest bathroom and puked your guts out. He ran behind you, found you hunched over heaving into the bowl, he reached over and held your hair back, whispering "Oh baby, let it out, it's okay."Â
"I'm right here."Â Â
You slowly raised your head and wiped your mouth, and leaned your head on the seat. He quickly flushed the toilet and pulled you back so that you could rest your head on his chest. He ran his fingers through your hair, tugging it very gently because you liked that. The simple act reminded you of how soft he was when you were sick.Â
"I'll get my stuff out when you're better; you don't have to go anywhere. But I'm not leaving you when you're so sick, Bun"Â Â
You ignored what he said and replied "I'm not leaving you, you idiot"Â
Puzzled, he looked at you "Then? what did you mean-
"I'm leaving that godforsaken job! You can take it if you want, but I'm not stepping foot in that place again."Â
"Don't be so quick, Y/N, take some time to think about it, and no. I'm not taking the job."Â Â
"I have thought about it, Harry. I was up for that promotion, and if they weren't going to give it to me, I don't see the point in busting my ass for that company anymore."
"Now why don't you help me and open the drawer for me."
He hesitantly reaches in and opens the drawer, to find a used pregnancy test.Â
He looks at you, shock is written all over his face. "Are we....."Â
"Yes, baby." You say all teary-eyed, but this time it's happy tears.Â
You were stressed out at work. All because of impending appraisals for a while, so a missed period had utterly slipped your mind. You had a taken the test earlier in the day and were excitedly scrolling through Pinterest to look for a cute way to tell Harry. In all the excitement you had forgotten to eat all day, and then the job thing happened. It just solidified your need to quit your job and look into some freelance opportunities. Sure, the way you found out wasn't ideal, but it was the only answer.Â
"Baby? We're having a baby?" that seemed to break you out from your trance.Â
He bent down to lift you "I could kiss you right now."Â
You grimaced "I'd rather you not, H."Â
That night you both sorted out the details for your resignation and new job opportunities for him, after that you both had a good ol' cuddle session and fell asleep in each other's arms.Â

âFollow your heart, kid, and you can never go wrong.â
- The Sandlot
âCome on, it wasnât that bad,â you jest, giggling nervously. The screen door closes with a loud whap! behind the both of you.
âYa, maybe it wasnât fer you,â he sighs in a whisper, stuffing his hands into his pockets. His high-top white converses slap! down the wooden stairs quickly. âI think I need anotha beer afta that.â
âFollow me.â
A humid heat hits you in the face when you open the scarlet-colored door to the garage. The familiar smell welcomes you, and so do the sights of your fatherâs tools hanging up on the walls. The lawn mower still sits in the same spot, his pair of old glasses remain perched on the windowsill, and the tiny mini fridge in the corner awaits your call.
âThanks,â he mumbles after taking a long pull from the refreshing beer. You opt for a Whiskey-Coke, instead, the carbonation sending shooting stars across your tongue. You watch him wipe away the bead of sweat running down his forehead, and then the subsequent smile that drills the dimples into his cheeks. âBloody hell, if that isnât tha cutest thing âve eva seen.â
A questioning âwhatâ barely passes your lips once you spot the miniature lilac colored baseball glove on a shelf. Next, a laugh falls from your lips and he echoes it with his own adorable concoction.Â
âHard tâ believe yer hand was eva that tiny, love.â
âI know, itâs funny that my dad kept it around.â
âI would if I were him, âs bloody adorable,â he notes, picking up the battered leather mitt with a content smile. âAh, lookie here. Up fer a game oâ catch, love? Bet I could whoop yer ass.â
âHarry, you canât beat somebody in catch!â you protest, the cool liquid gracing your lips, providing you a few seconds of relief from the summer heat.Â
âWeâll just see âbout that, now wonât we?â he teases with a wiggle of his eyebrows. A tan, leather baseball glove hits you square in the chest, landing in your arms while he slips on a darker twin of it. âCâmon, I wanna see how girly of a throw ya got.â
âOh, shut up. You have no idea whatâs coming for you. Youâre dating a former softball player here.â
âAm I now? Ya donât seem that intimidatinâ tâ me, miss,â Harry laughs softly, the billowy cotton of his red Hawaiian themed shirt catching the wind once your feet find the grass. âDunno how anythinâ can be intimidatinâ afta meetinâ yer bleedinâ father, thoâ. Bloody hell,â he remarks, shaking his head.Â
âIt really wasnât that bad, Harry,â you correct him, placing your tall can beside his dark glass bottle.Â
âIt was. Didnât know heâd be so fookinâ hard on me, askinâ all oâ those questions. He never even smiled at me once, babe,â he scoffs, sliding the glove onto his large hand and messing around with it until itâs comfortable enough.Â
âYes, he did.â
âNo, he didnât. Or I didnât see it. Dunno why he was so cold tâ me. Yaâve always had such good things tâ say âbout growinâ up with him . . ,â he exhales, tossing the ancient brown and red baseball into the mitt. His short curls dance around atop his head as he crosses the large backyard, the very same one you played kickball in, where you hit home run balls into the woods, set cartwheel records in, and still have the pieces of wood set into the ground marking the bases.Â
âHeâs quiet, Harry, thatâs all. You just have to find something in common with him, and then youâll hit it off. I promise you, he liked you.â
âDonât believe ya there, he was givin' me tha evil eye tha whole time durinâ dinna, even thoâ I was fakinâ likinâ his burgers. They were dry as hell,â he grumbles, soon coming to a stop a good way across the grassy area. Messing with his light-washed denim shorts, he checks his phone before letting it fall back into one of its pockets. âReckon âs cuz yer his liâl girl, loads moâ protective oâ you cuzzâa that.âÂ
âKeep going, Iâm not a sissy.â
âOh, so I should go long, âs that right? Dunno if ya can make it tâ me if I go back any farther,â he winks, the dimples set into his cheeks all the way from here, you notice.
âWould you hush? I pitched all throughout high school, I can make your hand hurt from catching it, if you keep running your mouth,â you argue.Â
âOooooo, sheâs gettinâ feisty now,â he chuckles, raising his voice to carry across the clipped green grass, tall trees framing the yard. He pats his taut fist into the palm of the glove, the baseball snug in his large hand. Why, of course it is, Mr. Huge Hands.
Seconds later, the ball soars through the air and banks to the left, but with a jump, you catch it just in time.Â
âWhat the hell was that?â you laugh, holding up your hands.Â
âErm, âm warminâ up? Yâknow, gotta get the old righty back in âs place,â he insists, stretching his dominant arm this way and that, ever so dramatically.Â
âWhatever. Youâre full of shit, Harry,â you call back, adding extra volume to your voice. His bottom lip escapes to between his teeth while his head goes from side to side. You surprise him with your throw and he misses it, pulling a loud laugh from your lips. âNot so confident, are we now?â
âShuddup! Ya were a bloody softball player, ya got advantage ova me, âs not fair.â
âDonât you start whining now! Youâre the one who wanted to play catch with a five time-.â
âYa ya, we get tha point, babe. Yer a bloody star when it comes tâ softball. I know, I know. Wish I coulda seen ya play, woulda been fun. Ya should join a summer league, they sound like a hoot,â he comments, locating the ball at last back in the woods and landing it in your glove.Â
âAnd I played with my brother all of the time, and he was M.V.P two years in a row on his high school baseball team.â
âGood fer him, maybe he should be out here playinâ with you, instead,â Harry says when your throw to him sails over his head. âGod, can ya control that arm oâ yers fer once?â
âSorry!â you laugh, knowing that he doesnât believe it for a second.Â
âSure ya are.âÂ
The ball arrives in your mitt with a pleasing whap! and your hand settles over it. Brushing your fingers along the coarse stitches, the shocks of green grass stains on the leather welcome you back to your childhood, tossing around this very same ball with your older brother and father. The nostalgia brings your hand to your pocket, and your fingers soon tap the screen of your phone.Â
âCâmon, slow poke! Whatâre ya waitinâ fer? âFraid âll beat ya afta all?â Harry quips from across the yard, nearing you to retrieve his beer that he sips from. With a pleased âahhhh,â he sets it down on the gray cinder blocks of the nearby fire pit after walking back, placing enough space between him and it so he doesnât run into it.Â
Sliding your phone back into your pocket, music soon pours from the large bluetooth speaker in between you against the garage.Â
ââs this just fantasy? Caught innâa landslide, no escape from realityyyyyy. Open yer eyes, look up tâ tha skies, and seeeeee,â Harry sings loudly, pumping his arms down at his sides and closing his eyes adamantly. ââm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy. Because âm easy come, easy go, liâl high, liâl low.âÂ
âAny way the wind blows, doesnât really matter to meeeeee,â you sing back, savoring the large smile painting his face as he catches your throw with ease.Â
âToooo meeee,â he sings back. âMamaaaaaa just killed a man, put a gun against his head. Pulled my trigger, nowâs he dead. Mamaaaaa, life had just begunnnn. But now âve gone and thrown it all awayyyyy,â he sings to the baby blue skies dotted with clouds, adamantly strumming an invisible guitar. He echoes your laugh that flies between the two of you, joining the robins and starlings flitting between the trees. âKnew I picked a good one, sheâs got a good arm and a bloody good taste in music. Ya betta play Take On Me next, or all bets are off.â
âOh, you know that I will. It feels like an eighties night, playing catch in the backyard during the summer. Itâs just like when I was little,â you note aloud, jogging to the right to catch his next throw until it falls into your glove.Â
ââBout tha same fer me, just with footy, think this âs how âd like tâ spend my summers still . . I loved it so much, playinâ in tha backyard listeninâ tâ tha radio, and think my kids would too,â he says casually, sparking a blush in your cheeks at the mention of him as a father. Oh, what you would do to be able to see him playing catch with a little dark-haired boy or girl who calls him âDaddy.âÂ
Fuck me, you think hastily.Â
Quickly, your shared favorite part of the song comes and he imitates the guitar shredding while you repeatedly toss the ball into your mitt, watching him.Â
âBut eva since I watched Wayneâs World as a kid, I canât avoid banginâ my head when it gets tâ this part,â Harry chuckles, tossing a pop fly towards the overhang of tree branches. âI love tha trees here, ya know, âve neva seen so many.âÂ
âMe too, I love that part in the movie, and I love them too. Itâs crazy to think how long theyâve been around to get this big. Some of them were as tall as I am now when I was little.â
âHuh,â he hums curiously, shooting into the air to grab a high one you tried to trick him with. Your eyes canât help but wander to his dark fern tattoos that peek out when his shirt rises. âYa think I should keep it still, or get rid oâ it?â Harry poses to you, puckering his lips at you with a mischievous grin.Â
âYou almost remind me of Freddie Mercury with that âstache,â you say, the laugh growing from somewhere deep inside of you. He shrugs his shoulders and tosses a fast one back to you, hitting your glove square in the center with a heavy slap!Â
âDunno why ya think thatâs such a good joke, âs a damn compliment, if ya ask me.âÂ
âUh oh, are we getting a big head over there because youâve caught my last three throws?â you joke, watching the ball soar high into the air amongst the green covering of the trees.Â
âHey, be easy on me,â he pouts, his words disagreeing with his actions that send a hot fastball into your palm.Â
âWhy? Youâre never easy on me when we play Mario Kart or Cribbage.âÂ
âHey! You donât have a bleedinâ nearly professional career in any oâ those!â he protests and then curses when your curveball nicks the tip of his glove.Â
âSo, and neither do you, and youâre still aggressive as fuck when we play them! Huh, whatâs your excuse, Harry?âÂ
âGalileo!â he calls out.Â
âGalileo!â you echo, and the rest follow suit between the two of you as the song plays.Â
ââm just a poor boyyyyy, nobody loves me,â he sings loudly, causing you to cough on your drink that you take a swig from.Â
âKeep telling yourself that,â you shoot back, setting down the wet can as he approaches you.Â
âBut I am,â he whines, pushing out his bottom lip that you flick with your finger.Â
âWatch it!âÂ
âOr what?â you counter, savoring the annoyed expression that soon fills his features. Thereâs just something about pushing his buttons that gets you going, even though you know that you shouldnât do it.Â
âOr else I wonât bloody learn tha rest oâ Blackbird on guitar fer you,â he retorts playfully, taking a long pull from his bottle.Â
Now, itâs your turn to shout âhey!â until he scoops you into his arms, your surprised shriek piercing the sky.Â
âYou better finish learning it! But, I think that I like Freddie better.â
âHow? Paul âs far betta. âll always love Queen, and The Beatles donât have anythinâ on Bohemian Rhapsody, but Paul âs tha betta musician. Trust me, I should know,â he disagrees, pecking your temple before pulling away and tossing the ball into your waiting glove.Â
âBut, Freddie had a four octave range.â
âAnd? So does Paul,â Harry shrugs, raising his left arm in the air to snag your fastpitch that he almost loses. âPaul McCartney âs tha superior musician, just trust me on this.âÂ
âPaul McCartney has nothing on Freddie Mercury,â a voice pipes up, turning the both of your heads to the right where you find your dad stepping out of the garage with a weathered black baseball glove snug upon his right hand.Â
You swear that you could hear Harryâs apprehensive gulp from all of the way over here, and when you look, you find his adamâs apple bobbing in his throat.Â
âBut Paul was betta on guitar, bass, and drums,â Harry argues, nervously tossing the ball into his glove repeatedly.Â
Your dad closes the door behind him softly, and steps out on the grass, adjusting his glasses. Surprise is absent from your range of emotions when your dad shrugs his shoulders, but youâre sure that it coats Harryâs insides in the next few moments.Â
âYouâre right there, I like somebody who can stand up for their argument,â he comments, nodding a head towards Harry who out of the corner of your eye is smiling, just the slightest. âI think I might like this one,â he says to you, holding out his glove towards Harry, with his lips curling into his cheeks.Â
The smile on your boyfriendâs face almost matches that of your fatherâs, but heâs got nothing on the grin plastered across Harryâs face because of your next words.Â
