The rain poured relentlessly, creating a symphony of soft patters against the cobblestone path ahead. You paused, glancing at him as he hesitated, his brow furrowing slightly at the downpour outside. The reluctant look on his face made you chuckle softly.
“What’s the matter? Afraid of a little rain?” You teased, tugging on his sleeve. He sighed, releasing his grip on the door.
“We don’t have to get drenched,” he reasoned, shrugging off his jacket and holding it out to you.
“You can use this as cover.”
You grinned, shaking your head.
“No need,” you said simply, grabbing his hand. Without warning, you pulled him outside, straight into the rain. The cold droplets hit you both instantly, soaking through your clothes and clinging to your skin. You gasped at the sudden chill, but it only made the moment more exhilarating. He stiffened at first, his posture rigid, clearly caught off guard by the downpour. You, however, couldn’t help but laugh—a sound so carefree and bright that it bubbled up from your chest like a melody breaking free. Throwing your head back, you let the rain kiss your cheeks, your arms spreading wide as if to embrace the storm itself. Water trailed down your face, mingling with the strands of hair plastered to your forehead, but none of it mattered. You twirled once, your movements light and unbothered, sending tiny droplets flying into the air around you. He stood frozen, watching you with a mix of disbelief and something else he couldn’t quite name. The rain clung to his dark lashes, his damp hair beginning to curl slightly at the edges. The stoic mask he so often wore seemed to crack ever so slightly. His gaze softened as he watched you, the laughter shaking your shoulders like a ripple of pure joy. Something shifted within him—an almost imperceptible change. For the first time, he didn’t feel the weight of his own thoughts. Instead, he found himself captivated by the way you glowed in the rain, your happiness so genuine and unrestrained that it tugged at his heart. A flicker of something unfamiliar stirred in
“Madness,” he muttered, though there was a trace of amusement in his voice now.
“Come on, it’s fun!”
You exclaimed, spinning around and splashing in a puddle like a child. The water splattered his perfectly polished shoes, droplets scattering across the pristine leather. He froze for a moment, glancing down at the damage as if deciding whether to sigh in exasperation or let it go. His lips parted, and you braced yourself for some sharp remark, but it never came. Instead, he looked up at you—your grin mischievous, your eyes sparkling like raindrops caught in sunlight—and his irritation melted away. He hesitated, just for a second, as though weighing his next move. And then, without thinking, he stepped closer. The space between you disappeared, the world fading until all you could feel was his presence, warm and steady amidst the chill. His hands found your shoulders, gentle but firm, grounding you in the moment. His touch sent a surprising warmth radiating through you, a stark contrast to the cold rain soaking through your clothes. Slowly, his fingers slid down your arms, leaving a trail of heat in their wake. His movements were deliberate, almost tentative, as if he wasn’t entirely sure of what he was doing—or why. When his hands reached yours, they lingered for the briefest moment, his thumb brushing your knuckles in a way that made your breath hitch. And then, with a decisive motion, he pulled you closer, wrapping his jacket around both of you. The scent of him—clean and faintly woodsy—enveloped you, mingling with the rain-soaked air. The world outside the jacket seemed to disappear, muffled by the fabric and the rhythmic sound of rain.
“Come here,” he murmured softly, his voice barely audible over the storm. You glanced up, finding his eyes fixed on you with an intensity that made your heart flutter. His arm rested protectively around your shoulders, holding you close as if shielding you from more than just the rain. For all his usual composure, there was something unspoken in the way he looked at you now—a vulnerability that felt rare, precious, and just for you.
“You’re cold,”
He said, his voice softer now. You tilted your head up to meet his gaze, a teasing smile playing on your lips.
“No, I’m not,” you replied with a quiet chuckle.
Raindrops clung to your lashes, sparkling like tiny jewels, and he couldn’t look away. His chest tightened as he noticed the way your lips curved, how effortlessly happy you looked. For a moment, he wondered if this was what peace felt like—this moment, with you.
“You’ll be,” he murmured, brushing a strand of wet hair from your forehead. His fingers lingered longer than necessary, and you leaned into his touch, your voice barely above a whisper.
“Then you’ll just have to keep me warm.”
His breath hitched at your words, his mind swirling with emotions he couldn’t quite name—emotions that felt both foreign and overwhelming. His hand moved almost instinctively, tilting your chin up with a delicate touch. His thumb brushed over your bottom lip, the warmth of his skin sending shivers down your spine that had nothing to do with the rain. He held your gaze, his dark eyes searching yours as though he was looking for something, or perhaps finding something he didn’t know he needed.
“You’re impossible,”
he whispered, his voice low and tinged with an edge of frustration. But his lips betrayed him, curving into the faintest smile—a rare and unguarded softness that made your heart flutter. His thumb lingered at your lip for just a second longer before his hand slid to cup your jaw.
“But I wouldn’t have it any other way,” he murmured, the warmth in his tone melting any barriers he might have tried to keep between you. You felt a bubble of laughter escape, light and carefree, and it seemed to draw him in even further. Before you could think, you grabbed his hand and spun him once more, pulling him into another twirl beneath the relentless rain. The world spun around you, the downpour a blur, but his eyes never left yours. Your laughter filled the air, blending with the patter of raindrops, and for a moment, everything else faded. As you slowed to a stop, your hands still clasped his, and you found yourselves closer than before. Your chest brushed against his, the space between you all but gone. The rain trailed down his sharp features, clinging to his lashes and dripping from his jaw, but his gaze remained fixed on you. There was no hesitation now, no guarded walls. His hand slid from your jaw to the back of your neck, his fingers threading gently into your damp hair. He leaned in, achingly slow, as if giving you every chance to pull away—but you didn’t. You couldn’t. Your breath mingled with his, warm and shallow, as the world seemed to hold its breath with you. And then, finally, his lips met yours. The kiss was tentative at first, soft and exploring, as though he was testing the waters. But it quickly deepened, his other hand finding your waist to pull you closer. His lips were warm despite the chill in the air, moving against yours with a mixture of intensity and tenderness that sent a thrill through you. The rain was forgotten, the cold a distant memory as heat coursed through you, grounding you in this moment—this perfect, electrifying moment. When he finally pulled back, just enough to meet your eyes, his forehead rested gently against yours. His breath was uneven, his lips slightly parted as though he was about to speak. Instead, he let out a soft, almost incredulous laugh, his thumb brushing your cheek.
“You’re dangerous,” he murmured, his voice low and laced with awe.
“Do you know what you’re doing to me?”
You smiled, your fingers curling into the damp fabric of his shirt as you whispered back,
“Perhaps, but I’m not sorry.”
And as his lips found yours again, this time with a hunger that left no room for doubt, you knew he wasn’t sorry either.
