I realize the #wool post from yesterday really upset some people. I'm glad we can talk about this. The way animals are treated on many, many farms is a hard, sad, tough thing to face but if we don't, it will continue to happen. I'm sure those who were most angered were those who come from farms and farming families that have NOTHING to do with the mistreatment of animals. I wish everyone were like you. But they are not and extensive undercover investigations have gone on in the US, Canada and Australia and even on farms that claim to be "ethical", where severe animal abuse was taking place (in factory farms in general). Sheep absolutely NEED to be shorn. This is a fact. But they don't need to be 1. shorn along with their skin and sewn up without anesthetics 2. castrated without anesthetics 3. kept in overcrowded, disgusting conditions 4. shorn when they are dead 5. physically abused. ALL OF THESE ACTS WERE CAUGHT ON CAMERA, MANY TIMES, ON MANY FARMS. (Like the pictures above taken by an undercover investigator for Peta) If you are treating your animals well WE COMMEND YOU. Seriously, I am not saying that lightly. I really, really appreciate you raising our animals with love and respect. But those who aren't need to be exposed and if you love animals, you should agree and not be outraged with us bringing the topic to light. -- Rachel Kibbe, founder @datass_34 #BeThatDopeChange
