with the rain, nothing is ever the same. not the exact rain drop nor current. it washes away leaving only residue behind. so truly nothing in its contact is permanent. “i know… I’m just going to miss. don’t tell anyone i said that. I’ll deny it.” paul’s been with the fireflies for quite some time, enough to know ellie is a good kid, just with a foul mouth. seeing her go with a stranger disheartens him despite the man having a motivation and reason to do what he says. none of it sits right in the man’s bones.
“I’ll be there as soon as I can with Marlene alright? Just try to stay out of trouble won’t you?” he nudges her playfully and then heaves his shoulders. getting marlene all the way out there alive is going to be a feat enough in itself. having to worry about ellie is a complication he doesn’t need but inevitable anyway.
