#beta day

Hello All!

This year a lot of us in the omegaverse-council got pretty busy with life. Things happen! We, unfortunately, had to put a lot of our events on hold/completely forgot about them.

To make up for that, this year, the month of November will be a concise version of all our events.

Each Monday, in November, will be a day dedicated to each of the dynamics and, finally, Omegaverse as a whole. We will accept whatever you would like to submit or tag us in until the next event that following Monday. This way, you can have plenty of time to share with the community and us.  

November 4th - Alpha Day

November 11th - Beta Day

November 18th - Omega Day

November 25th - Omegaverse Day

Beta Day is here!

Here are some random headcanons on Betas. 💚

- the beta pheromones are strong, just like the other dynamics, but then added scent is much more subtle 

- betas have more nature like scents; oceans, woods, rain, etc.

- despite controversy belief, betas do nest

- beta nests are usually smaller and made in their bed because they often take it down to rebuild later on 

- betas have mild heats/ruts/nothing at all depending on who their mate is 

- heats/ruts are extremely mild, it’s a day or two with a slightly primal instincts

- feral betas are very scary, do not cross them because they are loyal and will do harm/kill if they need too 

- they do not react to certain scents that alphas/omegas give out, so if an omega goes into heat they won’t be affected in any means but will recognize the smell 

- ^ unless if the person whose scent is changing is their mate’s, then they would counter the scent in hopes to calm them 

- betas can manipulate their scent in any way they want too

- suppressants often do not work on betas 

- betas are incredibly body-positive and make sure that they spread that message to the other dynamics 

- betas made mom jeans cool again 

- betas are amazing cuddlers 

I won’t be able to commemorate tomorrow, so have this today. I know we sometimes seem to favour Alphas and Omegas over Betas, but what would we be without you? A mess ofc... more than the one we already are. 

So here are some cute headcanons to cheer ya’ll up today. 

• Beta lovers are the crafitiest. They make presents better than Omegas and Alphas. Courting isn’t much of a process traditionally partaken by Betas, but it doesn’t really make much of a difference, cause if a Beta is interested in you chances are you’ll end up with at least five different bracelets, three scarves and an impressive assortment of hand-made scented candles. All in the spam of two months. 

• Betas don’t make Dens like Alphas or nests like Omegas. But they are very good home-makers as well as decorators. Alphas and Omegas might be reluctant to step out of familiarity or routine very often, but Betas are the ones you’ll see doing stuff like Feng Shui and collecting random rocks outside because “it’d look nice close to that other thing they have in that one spot no one really pays much attention to begin with”. But I guess it depends on your definition of “good decorator” because sometimes there’s too many elephants with their tails turned to the south in a single coffee table. 

• Jewery for many centuries was a Omega-exclusive item of possession. Only for female Omegas and only for the wealthy. Wealthy Betas while having the currency to buy those were either prohibited by law or culturally chastised to not have them. The exception to the rule were “symbols of faith”, like crufixes. So a type of specialized crafting started to be developted by Betas that still wanted to have or gift Beta lovers with something like that. It was commonly known as a “hidden love” piece. Something like pendant, ring or bracelet that was disguised in the outside like a common and plain religious item, but were really intricate little puzzles that only the holder would know how to unlock, and once solved it’d open up to an interior with intricate mosaics made of precious stones, pearls and messeges. It was an item popular from the 16th century all the way until the mid Edawardian Era. After that jewelry was popularized to all Dynamics so it fell in disuse. 

• A “Minty mind” is a term used to refer to any person of any dynamics in modern times, but it was a term that originated from describing Betas. Betas were commonly found in agricultural labour all throughout the world, both because of their massive numbers and because Alphas and Omegas in power thought “it suited them better”. Because of that Beta scents, already fainter in nature were even more difficult to discern because of their work in the fields, it was common to refer to Beta scents as "lemon grass", "lavander" or obviously "mint", even if that wasn't their real scent. The idea just got more reinforced with the predominance of Beta scholars in the field of Botanics. To say someone had a "minty mind" meant they were either dumb like a peasant in the case of the first, or smart and inventive like a Beta scholar in the case of the latter. Thankfully the latter stuck for modern times.

• When we talk about physical characteristics of the dynamics there isn’t much we can say past vast generalizations, however Betas have a funny fact about them. The colour green has been associated with the dynamics as long as people can remember and part of that is because of the odd phenomenon that is their eye colour. It’s estimated that 30 to almost 50% of the Beta population has some variation of green eyes. There is no definite reason as to why, the better explanation so far is a hypothesis that suggests the Beta gene seems to show a preference to the green allele. If there is a possibility of the embryo presenting green eyes, the Beta allele seems to enable that characteristic inspite of probability. The Beta gene simply seems to show an affinity for the colour. No one knows why exactly that is, it shows no actual advantage for the Betas, it’s merely aethetics, but it seems to just... keep happening.

In my AU. Betas don’t nest but they can benefit from them. 

But for those who have Betas being able to nest: 

Their nests are extremely neat. 

In the Most logical places. Or places they benefit from the most. In the kitchen? So they don’t have to go far for food. 

This month we will be celebrating Beta Day today, November 11th. Next year we will return to our original dates!
