Through my childhood, my family always had a dog. The breed of choice was a Lab. I remember enjoying coming home from a day of school and being so excited to go let our dog out because I knew she would be ecstatic to see me! I would let her out and she would run all around the yard with her tail tucked under her legs almost as if she was in a race. Then she would come running back to me and lick me all over the face. The happiness I felt when seeing our dog could change any bad mood to a happy one.
While being out on my own as an adult I felt something was missing. I would come home to a normal routine day at work and feel an emptiness. I had never taken care of a dog on my own, seeing how I was living with my parents before, so I was doubtful on my ability to take care of another living thing. Well, I decided to take the chance and I am beyond grateful that I did.
The day I picked up my puppy was a day I will never forget. All the way home he just cried and cried. I felt horrible for taking him away from his parents, brothers, and sisters that I even got emotional for him and began to cry as well. So, there we are two crying babies headed home to a new world and new experience. When we got home I let him walk around and check things out a bit while I tried deciding on a name. He is a black lab with a white patch on his chest that looks like he is wearing a Tuxedo. There I had it, Tux!
Tux and I quickly grew an unbreakable bond. He is the sweetest dog I have ever had. I have never in my life seen someone so excited to see me EVERY SINGLE DAY! He is excited when I wake up, when I use my “happy voice”, when I come home from work. Tux is never sad and it is the most uplifting feeling everyday when I get to see his happiness. Even better than the bond I shared with my childhood dogs.
Tux will always be my best buddy.
