🤔 What is the most wonderful thing on Earth you’ve ever seen/experienced? 😎 BEST ADVICE I can give an artist that has nothing to do with actually creating art — 2. Leave your sphere. 🤓 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I grew up surrounded by world literature. It was only when my family moved to Canada that I was chiefly exposed to American, Canadian, and English literature. The one thing that I love best about living in Toronto is the diversity. However, ironically, I have to go out of my way to learn about other cultures in Toronto. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Disney’s Pocahontas sang it best: “...if you walk the footsteps of a stranger, you’ll learn things you never knew...” My advice is to read the books not many people read, watch the foreign movies with subtitles, and (whenever you can afford it) to visit a foreign country. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The sky above Sydney, Australia is a different sky than we see in Canada. I have never seen such vibrant and beautiful sunsets as I did there. I want to visit Ireland and see if the grass is greener. Paris, Rome, and Prague are museums. In fact, other than the Vatican, I did not step inside a museum in Rome — the whole city had more than enough to offer a hungry artist. In Cuba, the stars shine brighter. Iceland is like an alien planet... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ With the news being so depressing, it is sometimes easy to forget how beautiful and lovely our world and the people living on it are. 😎 BEST ADVICE I can give an artist that has nothing to do with actually creating art. 🤓 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In the following posts I will share with you a few things I find very important and helpful in my career as an artist. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Pilates (and/or Yoga) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In my opinion, Pilates and/or Yoga (I stopped doing yoga when I twisted myself into a shape and was terrified I may not be able to twist myself out of it — I exercise at home, alone.) is absolutely essential for artists. We spend most of our time bent over a desk or a computer. These exercises help with strengthening the muscles, but especially the core. As a tall person (I think I’m at least 5' 10") I find that if I do not do regular Pilates my back aches horribly at the end of the day. Furthermore, my sister who is a physiotherapist says that most of the health problems are caused by poor posture. Mine use to be absolutely dreadful as a teenager. I’m still working on it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The other exercises I keep forgetting to do are the ones to strengthen my wrists. If I spend a lot of time drawing without ceasing for days, my hand and arm begin to hurt. Because I am a Motor Moron, I injure myself while exercising without supervision, my sister gave me a few I could not hurt myself with.
