Well this took a hot minute to finish. Here is the final (lol) version of @awritingcaitlin 's OCs, Rinnie (right) and Taryn (left) on a tour of the classy area of Berthingtonn. In so far as sapphic couple bodyguard romances go, this one is cute. Until it isn't and @awritingcaitlin goes and breaks her babies like authors are wont to do.

Another WIP for today. This is the start of an early scene of Dr. Rinnie Edgewing (right) and her Edansa Navy bodyguard Petty Officer 1st Class Taryn Woodlance on one of their many tours through the fashionable districts of upper Berthingtonn. Taryn takes her job very seriously. Rinnie does... not.

One last sketch for the Law Enforcers of Berthingtonn's South Town for The Brewing War by @awritingcaitlin. This Guard is a member of a Precinct Investigation Team.

Due to the high prevalence of Mages and magic in general in the Tyrysius setting, it is only natural that law enforcement agencies hire and train specialists in the art of Pnemamancy (Spirit Magic) to act as investigators. Their skill in this magic allows them to trace the ambient magic left in the wake of a crime, and if investigated quickly enough, this residual magic can often lead them directly to the perpetrator.

As one would expect, these techniques are not fool-proof and experienced Mages can cast spells to hide their tracks or otherwise confuse an investigator, leading to a sort of arms race among investigators and magically gifted criminals.

In this vane, the Investigation Teams have invested in both magical and mundane tools, such as the Focus Hood, worn by this investigator, which filters out stray emotional magic, and Piercing Goggles, (also worn) which enable a user to see through most Illusion spells.

The Armored Astral Tactical Enforcement Unit is the most prestigious and controversial Guards organization in Berthingtonn and is the one that most encapsulates the Berthan attitude towards Astrals in their city. On the negative side, the very existence of this unit shows why Astrals should be feared, as when one goes outside the law, AATE are likely the only ones who will be able to effectively deal with the threat. On the flip side, due to Berthan recruitment policies, the AATE also employs the highest concentration of Astrals and Battle Mages in the city and the prestige motivates them to remain model citizens who serve as example of just how useful and trustworthy Astrals can be. At least that is how it is supposed to work.

Due to their combat experience, gained by fighting Astrals, mages and organized crime, in times of war, AATE Guards (known among themselves as 8-Ballers) revert to the command of the Berthan Army, where they have repeatedly distinguished themselves in the role of Heavy Shock Infantry.

Unlike the last two examples of Guards, this AATE trooper (as the name would suggest) is heavily armored in enchanted steel plate and armed with a .46 Caliber Anti-Astral Battle Rifle, as well as a host of other close-in weapons.

These Guards ultimately serve as both a weapon of last resort for the Berthan Crown and as a warning to the criminal enterprises of the city - do not incur the notice of the 8-Ballers.

Unlike the last two sketches, this didn't draw on any specific regional inspiration, but rather an attempt to keep the vibe going by imagining what was under the patrol uniform from the previous picture. In this case, the Guard Sergeant is on dispatch duty and is running around with a headset because some nights are just like that for police.

This Guard is armed with a Service Revolver and nothing else, because while a guard might be ecstatic to doff their armor and hand weapons, they'd be damned to part with their gun.

Most importantly all Guards carry a combination field notebook and legal quick-reference. All the better to write down the reasons that you threw your new drinking buddy through the window at the tavern.

In keeping with the Catalonian inspiration, this Guards Constable is wearing a Spanish style rimmed and crested helmet that is appropriate for deflecting downward blows to the head as well as a breastplate and mail shirt. While firearms are common on Tyrisius, they are often too expensive to be carried casually in Berthingtonn by the type of drunks and criminals the Guards need to deal with the most often.

This Guard is armed with a Service Revolver, a standard small-sword and a baton (typically worn behind the pistol holster and not pictured).

Most importantly all Guards carry a combination field notebook and legal quick-reference. All the better to write down the reasons that you threw your new drinking buddy through the window at the tavern.
