"I am but a simple man, who pleads for a dance." -K. Flins [GN reader] NOT PROOFREAD
"A ball?", from the offensive tone your voice raised, it was impossible for Flins not to have a simple curiosity in whatever situation is having you speak in such a way.
A few higher ups near the main base of the light keepers had fallen ill over the last few weeks, Illuga, being stretched thin on the amount of people within piramida, has reached out to the lightkeeprs offices within Nasha town and the Final Night Cemetery to help with the routine inspection of the wild hunt. Being paired with other light keepers wasn't a terrible task, but being paired with Flins? Your playing your chances.
You didn't know the man well. But from what you did know, you had suspicion of his true colors. From the way he was eerily quiet and observant, to the almost supernatural ways he responded to the wild hunt(even as a moon wheel bearer), something in your mind was questioning the solitary man.
And he knew that too.
You weren't by any means "secretive" with your slight distrust in him, Flins was understanding of that. Human behavior is and will continue as it had done about him centuries before. But instead of pushing off your feelings, or simply doing something to kick you off his tail, instead Flins hunored your questions and random "investigations".
So in this case of your tone, he dubbed this as one of those perfect "moments" to either leave you with more questions, or perhaps an answer.
"Oh, what has my dear partner so offended? Did Illuga demand your attention to something to agast that it has you disgusted dearest?" Flins foot falls were silent as ever, another thing you noted about him, as he walks right over to your side of the room. The lighthouse offered great repree during your routine inspections and scouting the sightings of the wild hunt. It was also in Flin living quarters.
His quarters were...clean? That's all you could manage, too clean if you were to be even more suspicious but the letter had more importance(wait until you see the bone puzzle).
"The light keepers are hosting an celebration for the efforts of pushing back the abyss and wild hunt sighting by a marginal "34%". Quite staggering from last year." You tossed the paper onto the desk, leaning against the metal, you crossed your arms. "Illuga must either really need the moral, or the Knights of Favonius offered enough wine to delude the greatness kf the margins."
"Ah ever the pessimistic critic you are my dearest? Why not enjoy such a merry occasion. If young master Illuga finds a reason to celebrate and take a break from schedule, then why not you?" Flins inched closer into your personal space, but ghosted nearly outside of it. Respectful if not teasing. It was either you or him to make the breach. But neither party was calculated enough to do so. (Or brave on your part).
"Oh? I didn't take you as one to gather and celebrate sir Flins. Most times I recall you going to the flagship or entertaining the idea of going to Nasha town. Not ever have I heard of you going all the way to piramida.." your voice was teasing and pointed. Of course he suspected this, like before you were not the first, nor the last.
"And I could say the same to you my dear." Flins quipped. "I would say, the occasion for you would be beneath you. Perhaps you are just not one for celebrations of this size. Of course there are many people who behave similarly to you." His voice was light, not light of laughter but of a tease. If you looked at his face, you could guarantee a small smirk.
Your eyes cut to his. The hue of his golden eyes sparkled with humor. Egging you on.
"I just think a celebration this early, is a little unnecessary. It has nothing to do with my personal taste for parties." You stepped closer, arms still crossed as sheild of some start. Flins chuckled and simply offered a test.
"It seems I could be misunderstanding you my dear, I deeply apologize. However I do want to know, if its not the meaning of the celebration, then what is another reason? Perhaps embarrassment? Fear? It sounds like your defending yourself from something." He stepped closer.
"I am not ashamed or embarrassed, I gave you my reason, should that not be enough?!" Oh! He liked the tone your voiced changed into. It was a game now.
"Perhaps dearest you are hiding something? Ashamed for your fellow lightkeeper to know?" Your nose scrunched. "Ashamed and for what reason? I have nothing to hide in the scenario of this conversation. Sir Flins."
His eyes narrowed. So close, but this is not what he envisioned. Time to drop it then.
"Then I guess I was mistaken again, apologies dearest. Perhaps your disapproval comes from other means then I will drop it. I deeply wish fir your forgiveness for making you upset." He lowered his head, deeply apologetic for his words. That was one thing, whether Flins was a great liar, his words felt like the humble truth to you. Perhaps he was just teasing or just trying to make a good guess. Or just asking curious questions.
Perhaps you should trust a fellow lightkeeper.
"I can't....dance...well."
You don't look exactly at Flins, but your head is pointed toward him. You expect him to laugh, tease you more, or find your admission as enough proof to be a party pooper. Instead, he politely offers an extended hand towards you.
"Then, may I have the honor of being the first to teach you?" "You can dance? Like formal dancing?" He nods and leans back up to his full height.
"You could say I have the experience, yes. So may I, my dear?" His eyes drop to your hands, a silently plee for you to accept. Reluctantly, you act braver than usual, and your fingers touch the tips of his. His touch was light, gentle, nowhere in a rush. Flins takes your other hand, placing it on the front of his shoulder. Meanwhile, his comes to rest respectfully on your waist.
His hand gently pushes you closer to his chest, keeping you close but not too close. Swiftly, he guides you into a soft waltz, step by step, and he maneuvers you into the middle of the room within the lighthouse.
"Easy, there is no rush here. Just relax, I won't throw you into anything unpredictable, relax, dearest." His voice against your ear leaves a cool sensation down your spine, but you nod and continue with the steps. You were a quick learner, and he appreciated that and cooed it into his praises.
"You're learning quick, my dear, perhaps I should change the difficulty?"
"You said you weren't going to throw me into the deep end? This...just keep with this for now..." His hand squeezed your hip as a chuckle vibrated off his chest. Flins nods and just continues to sway with you. He doesn't comment when you rest your head against him, but the pace slows significantly after that.
Standing chest to chest in an odd embrace, you didn't want to move, and he didn't want to let you go just yet. So you both stayed. Time seemed to have paused, blessing you with this moment. Gathering your courage, you did look up at Flins when your eyes drifted; his were already watching. The glint in his eye wasn't a tease, but admiration. You were a beauty incomparable to time and history itself. He wanted to preserve this, analyze it, frame it. Something he can keep as he ever so moves on in this world.
But he can have this. Flins will just have this. Even when you pull away first, he removes his hands, takes his bow, and offers a small smile across his lips. "Thank you, dearest. You were an excellent student." In return, you also bowed and thanked him. "You were a good teacher...perhaps I could get lessons."
"Any time you wish of me, I shall always make the necessary time and space for you".
"Always? Sounds like a promise." You could not help but smile at his declaration. But Flins doubled down. "Always. And it is, just for you."
