Vice, the media company with a stronghold among millennials, recently launched its new Viceland TV channel with a number of interesting shows. Among the list is Weediquette, a series examining marijuana culture, hosted by Krishna Andavolu.
In this episode, we are introduced to Bernard Noble, a 49 year old black New Orleans native and father of seven. Noble is serving a 13.3 year sentence at Jackson Parish Correctional Center for….wait for it…….having 2 joints in his pocket. Krishna traces Noble’s story from his arrest to his incarceration.
This story saddens me on so many levels and in so many ways. One for the obvious, but also, like Noble, this is the same story for thousands of black males (and females) living in America. MASS-INCARCERATION…or what I call it…MODERN DAY SLAVERY.
