She had decided early on that JĂśtunheimr wasnât all bad. It had room for improvement--for one, it was not a satisfactory space for a siren considering everyone here was significantly taller than her; for someone accustomed to being a predator amongst prey she felt paltry here. For two, they didnât have cell service. That could be forgiven if Loki werenât regularly whining about how badly he wanted to use his phone. Sometimes you couldnât guess that the man wasnât born and raised human.
Anyway, the place had perks she could stand. There were language barriers at times but Vasilijaâs presence here was not leisurely, it was business, so communication wasnât pivotal. Loki had said early on that she neednât mingle if she didnât want to--in fact it would be best if she didnât. Heâd said, too, that Bergfinnr was a friend. Somebody they could trust. Damn good considering he was the king of the whole realm. Imagine someone with that much power knowing what he did about Loki and having the ability to use it against him. To tattle to Odin and ruin all their calculated plans.Â
Perhaps this was why she was unusually kind to him. Nicer by her terms, anyway, which meant she wasnât outlandishly brusque and rude as she often could be. It was a lack of meanness and for her that was a level of appreciation.
âHow do you stand it?â Her question was posed to him abruptly one day, her expression firm and impassive. Loki was elsewhere--not far but not near. âAll the royal nonsense. The stuffy bits. Sit up straight, careful what you say, wear fancy clothes all the time. I guess if youâre raised like that itâs like a second skin. Do you ever get a break?â
