Hi! I usually get them at shutterstock or at youtube, but in a very limited scale, which is why I rarely use them anymore. Most of the time I just do my own manual animations which would take forever to explain, but, with regards to your question:

To overlay,

Cap the video animation you want

Place them all in a canvas

On the canvas with your edit, make copies of your first frame. The number of frames on your edit canvas must equal the number of frames you have on on your animation.

Going back to the animation canvas, select all frames and copy them.

Then go to the edit canvas, select all frames, and paste your copied frames (select 'over selection').

In this part we are working solely on the edit canvas.

Select all frames and the animation layers. This will allow you to move the animation frames and position them on your desired area.

To overlay, simply select one frame, find the corresponding visible layer, and select Darken (or if it works with your edit, any of the blending options in its group), which would be found at this drop down box.

Do this with all frames.

I thought it was the best thing in the world, but then I think everybody who have used this little shit have experienced that crippling frustration of when you accidentally double click on a spot somewhere else and it locks in the selection and that’s it, that’s 20 minutes of your time down the drain like wet food you’d rather kill yourself than touch.

But the pen tool selects an area in such a way that it traces over it first via a series of dots

And all these dots you can arrange and rearrange and delete and move and undo before you make it into a selection.

You can pee halfway into making your selection thing! You can sneeze freely! You can fuck shit up! It’s amazing!

It's no big, sweetie :) As for your questions

The pen tool is still the best thing you could use to remove backgrounds as cleanly as possible, since it gives you control, but also the opportunity to undo dots previously made.

For getting a cleaner cut, I recommend zooming in really close. This allows you to see the little edges of the image a lot more clearly. Also, do it little by little. Instead of this where the lines made are straight and restrictive

do it like this, following the contour of the face more closely.

Also, after removing the background, go back to it with the eraser tool set on a bigger size to remove pesky, awkward protrusions or parts that the pen tool had missed.
