Ah the 80′s; a time of big hair, flashy outfits, and soulless self-indulgence. “Green Eyed” is about a young successful man who fears his time spent in the limelight is being threatened by a ghastly looking ghoul who is gaining popularity within his social circles. The entire film is more or less a metaphor about going through an existential crisis with the ghoul acting as a sort of mirror to the protagonist, revealing the ugliness of his own corrupted soul. As interesting as this premise sounds, the film unfortunately tries to play a song on a single note. The film never expands on its thesis of facing your inner demons (or at the very least, not thoroughly), and as such it’s very much a missed opportunity on the filmmaker’s part. Nevertheless, the film does offer some nice visuals and is a lovely nostalgia piece for anyone who loves the 80′s aesthetics. Overall, similar to the period it takes place in, the film emphasizes its surface qualities but lacks the substance to justify it. Enjoy.
