prompt: kisses as a promise
Adam hated when he had to go on his trips to the city. They weren’t that often, but that didn’t take the displeasure away when they did come about on his agenda. He’d love to take Belle, and often he did, but they had a daughter now. She was still so very small, and, by all accounts, Belle didn’t really want to leave her. As if Adam did.
They met out at the carriage. Belle held their little one in her arms, the baby looking around with big brown eyes and light curls just starting to sprout on her head. Adam walked over to the pair of them— his girls.
He smiled at his wife. “It’s only a week.”
“I know,” she nodded. “You still have to write.”
“I always write,” he retorted. Belle looked down at their daughter. Adam joined her, gently touching the baby’s head with his hand. The baby looked up and grinned, recognizing her papa. He smiled at her, then leaned down and kissed her curls. “I’ll be back before you know it, darling.”
Belle looked up at him, meeting his eyes. “Do you promise?”
Adam replied by bringing his hand to her cheek and pressing his lips to hers. Belle melted at the kiss, leaning into it. He ran his fingers through her hair, getting lost in the kiss before pulling away, pressing his forehead to hers.
They smiled in that moment. “I love you,” he whispered.
“I love you too. Be safe.”
“Of course.” He nodded with a smile that charmed Belle all too easily. He touched the baby’s head once more, telling her he loved her as well, and then broke from his loves and climbed into the carriage. He waved one last time through the window. It really was only a week, but it already felt like an eternity. Belle held onto his promise, and their little girl, and knew that before long, he’d be back, holding them both in his comforting arms once more.
