Even though you were safely wrapped in your duvet, guarded by the familiar walls of the bunker, you couldn’t help but still be afraid. Ever since your Dad had been attacked by those vampires you hadn’t had a good night’s sleep. Even when the days were fine, when the three of you had joked and laughed and felt okay, the nights came back and you were left to overthinking.
So now your nights consisted of you, too afraid to sleep, curled up in the library, blanket over you. You hadn’t heard your Dad’s footsteps, too busy shaking. Too busy trying not to shake.“Y/N?” He asked, noticing you on the sofa, breaths uneven. He raced over to you, “Y/N? Sweetheart, look at me.”You broke a little from your haze, teary eyes glancing up to his worried face, “I can’t breath.”Â
Your Dad’s armed wrapped around you and he held you tight against his chest, “It’s okay, it’s okay. I’m here. You’re okay. You’re safe.”He continued to whisper to you, gently rubbing your back as you found your breaths. You had stopped shaking. You rested your head on your Dad’s shoulders, not sure what to say.
“When was the last time you slept?”Â
“I’m scared to sleep,” You admitted, looking up at him, “I keep seeing you die and I don’t know how to stop it. I can hear it and I can see it and I can smell it-”“Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked gently.“Because it’s pathetic, we’re supposed to be brave an-”“Y/N, it’s not pathetic. It’s completely normal. You can always talk to me about this stuff, okay? I’ll never be mad at you, I promise. Come on, you can stay with me tonight.” He rose from the sofa and held out a hand for you to take. You did and for the first night in a while, you felt safe.
