i might make a more detailed post on this at another time, but my biggest thing would just be to find styles that you like or want to emulate and start by copying them – before i got brush pens, i faked it by going back and thickening my downstrokes to give that faux-calligraphy look, haha! watching viedos on instagram helps a lot, to see the motions that people use and just scrolling through design blogs/instas to get more ideas and stuff. i just found myself always doodling lettering, alongside my illustration doodles, and it was only about a year or two ago that i started getting more into lettering itself and focusing more on that. so i say find styles you like and try to copy them!! even print them out and trace over them, just to get your hand used to the motions. and from there, just practice practice practice!!! i just tend to write “hello” or “darling” or other fun curly words to practice different styles. soon enough i want to get into creating proper typography pieces!! so that’s the material that i’m drooling over on insta right now. 

my FAVE lettering pen to date is the pentel fude touch brush sign pen – it’s got a felt tip, so it’s easier to control, but still gives that awesome brush lettering look. so easy to use!!
