Personally, i tried to hammer a nail into one to make a hammock swing, gosh i bent the nail before i could drive it 20 cm into it. The kayu belian is surely a fine wood if you are trying to build a solid wooden house.

ive never asked this, but these stairs look temporary because it is very narrow. is it because its lifted up and stored inside during the night? As a form of security? or a more feasible answer would be when raiders or headhunters come to terrorize your longhouse it would be easier to take them out one by one during hand to hand combat, Waiting at the door with a long spear.
