I think Billie is talented AS FUCK. At just the bare bones skill set level, she has one of my favorite voices at the moment. That being said, she’s such a weird dichotomy to me because I think her voice is meant for so much more than what she (mainly) uses it for. This is why I’m super excited for the music she’ll be making in ten years. I know that sounds weird but - and running the risk of making myself sound old - I think she has a lot of growing up to do. She’s a literal child. We were all shit heads trying to figure out the world and who we are at 17. I was a sentient Hot Topic store between the ages of like 12-18 and I swore up and down that’s who I was going to be forever. Only the most emo of bands understood me. A True Rebel^TM lol. Just like Billie, I too was BAAAAAD. Like…..she’s living the worst stages of being a dumbass teenager in front of the whole world. I’m not saying it she’s faking it either. That’s truly who she is right now. She will evolve past it and I’m super stoked of the art that will be at the other end of the personal growth.

Like…when you hear the top 3 tracks vs the bottom ones they sound like two different artists. And that’s where the “dichotomy” thing comes into play with her. I think the bottom person is all the teenage Billie at work and top tracks are the glimpses of the future she’s going to eventually settle on.
Honestly, I see a lot of Halsey in her in terms of how she approaches her music and her artistry but I think she has a lot of maturing to do to get to Ashley’s level. I don’t doubt she can become an equal in the long run tho. I think she’s going to start making her best music once she has 1) had more life experience to write about and 2) has grown out of this phase and becomes an adult. I just don’t think that’s happening in the next year or even five. I was a fucking dipshit until I was like 25-26 so that’s the threshold I give people now lol. Everyone has until 26 to get it really together, after that we need to talk. Ask me again when she’s like 27 and I’m sure all of the things I want for/from her music and career will have become true. I actually have a lot of faith in the kid and where she’ll go. She’s one of the few “new things” from music today that I can get behind. Everything else is just so…blah.
