the shop buildings aboveground are tall and thin because they're basically just advertisements and entrances to the REAL shops, which are underground. also, don't be imagining just dirt burrows; hamsterdale is on meadowland but also rocky and sandy area, a real mixed rocky prairie area. the most bustling area of town is aboveground, built in a little copse of genetically engineered very small (for humans) but perfectly enormously big (for hamsters) trees. hamsterdale spreads out much further than the copse of trees underground. safety is paramount! but so is FUN!!
oh!!!! edit: VERY IMPORTANT information. Tunnel Towers is mostly painted Bright Sky Blue with Bright Pink and Bright Orange and the flags on the buildings are all sorts of colors. think pastel children's playground, but built for businesshams (businessmen). businesshams that like to think up their next urban engineering projects while running aimlessly at top speed through clear plastic tunnels. oh an dthe Big Stump also has lots of apartments and shops in it :]
