Some songs stay with us because they do more than entertain us. They become reminders. When I am on the road, I still sing “You Gotta Want It,” “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,” and sometimes “Carry On Wayward Son.” They remind me to keep moving, especially when life feels uphill. My favorite quote carries the same message: “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.” Over the years, I have learned that life requires fight. Not always against another person, but against discouragement, exhaustion, fear, and the temptation to focus only on what is missing. Life becomes far more rewarding when we learn to see the prospects in front of us. In today’s post, I am sharing why dreaming matters, why beginning matters even more, and why sometimes we simply have to decide that we want it badly enough to keep going. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation) there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issue from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way.
