“The River Flow” opens the 10-tracks record with a shuffle-driven drum beat and a deep, textured sound. Its guitar-led weight recalls the desert-rock tension associated with Queens Of The Stone Age, while Bellstar leans further into atmosphere, allowing psychedelic details and spacious production choices to shape the track’s identity.
“Mercury’s Possession” moves in a different direction. The song adopts a restrained, ballad-like feel, with a hazy 1960s psychedelic character that brings the songwriting and instrumental interplay into sharper focus. It is a quieter moment, but one that still feels connected to the album’s darker palette.
“Too Hard” provides one of the record’s most reflective passages. Built around piano, the track begins with a gentle touch before settling into a soothing mid-tempo arrangement. Its placement gives the album a welcome sense of contrast and balance.
Later, “Animals in the City” introduces acoustic guitar textures and a brighter tonal palette, without losing the ambient qualities that run throughout the release. Closing track “Blindsided” brings Bellstar’s ideas together with added melody and emotional context, ending Before a Fall on an immersive, carefully shaped note.
