Ever since Mathias met Dracula, he's been in denial. He refused to think he could ever be him, that he will be him. Nothing in the Count reminded him of himself, they were total opposites. At least, that's what Mathias thought.
Until he noticed the way Dracula would raise his eyebrow when he doubted. How he would command with a firm voice that would never shake, even when he told lies. The subtle change in his eyes when he looked at anyone, compared to how he looked at someone he favored. All the way to his manner of speech, and the way he'd sit on chairs depending on his mood.
Details after details were piling up, so much Mathias struggled to believe it was the work of his imagination more and more.
He'd look at himself in the mirror everytime he would wake up, or go to sleep. He'd look at his own face, finding relief in the fact his traits did not looked alike the Count's. It gave him hope. But nights and nights passed, and each time he'd look himself in the mirror, he'd notice more little, tiny details that made him think of him. He didn't like how his tired eyes ressembled the Lord's.
Then a white strand of hair appeared, one night. Mathias guessed it was the result of all the stress he was put under, living, surviving in this castle. It did not stop him from throwing up, however.
5. Dracastle for that deep, abstract love/bond Dracula and his Castle share, in my head <3 (i am NOT ASHAMED TO PUT IT IN MY TOP 5.) I think I'll put Dreath ex aequo with it because there's definitely a deep bond between those two as well. <3 Death being Dracula's biggest simp confidant and the only companion that he constantly had because he doesn't have any other immortal friend and MAN their bond is something that only immortals can understad and that no mortal could ever. 🥺
4.Isaavor/Isaactor LISTEN I CAN'T CHOOSE. THINGS ARE JUST THE WAY THEY ARE OKAY. I love them both equally for different reasons. <3 Isaactor because TWO LOST SOULS SHUNNED BY THE WORLDS FINDING EACH OTHER AND LOVING EACH OTHER IN THE ONLY WAYS THEY KNOW AND THEY'RE TRAGIC AND SO DIVORCED AND MARRIED AT THE SAME TIME AND AAAAAAAAAA and Isaavor because hot. ;) (ennemies to lovers trope except it's more like ennemies AND lovers).
3. Dramont because OF COURSE DRAMONT HOW COULD I NOT PUT THE DARK LORD X HIS ETERNAL ENNEMIES THEY ARE SO COOL (but choosing it's place in my top with very hard). Tbh I see it as.... Dracula feeling like their bond is similar to the one he shares with Death. Everytime he'll come back, there will be a Belmont (except the few times there wasn't but tbf he wasn't resurrected fully so let's ignore that for a sec). There's two consistant things in Dracula's lives, Death, and the Belmonts. Though the bond Dracula thought he had with the clan was only one sided :) Because they're mortals. :) They can't understand. :) Sure, they understand how they were linked to Dracula, fated to defeat him. But they could never truly understand the bond that linked two immortal souls together. :)
2. Mactor. I fell in this hell made out of our respective blorbos and I AIN'T COMING BACK UP AGAIN. I am so ready to burn with them <3
Oh and, of course, Hecula. :) What do you mean "two ships in one again"? Aren't they technnically the same ship? :) Just with a different name? :)

Anyway I just love the Horrors, Mathias, the pious man, seeing what he's fated to become and being disgusted by it, denying reality, hating everything, yet slowly coming to accept it. Dracula seeing what he used to be and ALSO being disgusted by it but learning to heal through Mathias. Dracula being everything Mathias despises, Mathias being everything Dracula rejected so long ago... all the DRAMA. All the POTENTIAL. AAAAAAA (also it's hot idc)
Hello, in honor of Hecula being canon in French, I wanted to add something interesting :)
The fact that Hector sounds shocked when Dracula dies, as if he still cared about hir former master, is slightly confirmed by how he refers to him in canon.
In English, he calls him Lord Dracula, when talking to Trevor ("Are you not Trevor Belmont, the one who defeated Lord Dracula?"), to Zead ("You used me to revive Lord Dracula!") and to Dracula himself ("Lord Dracula… You are reborn."). Other characters do so, either out of loyalty (Isaac, Zead) or politeness (Julia, St. Germain). What is Hector's reason?
But even better is how he talks in Japanese. Hector doesn't say "Dracula-sama", like Isaac does, it's just Dracula. But when he talks to him, while he keeps a neutral register, he calls him anata. Anata is a pretty polite pronoun: for reference, women refer to men as such (women tend to be more respectful), and Isaac himself uses it for Dracula in Prelude to Revenge, so you know it's very respectful. You'd expect Hec to whip out the aggressive kisama, like for Isaac, but no :)
In short, I'm lead to believe that, even three years after his betrayal, even when standing against everything his former master did, Hector still respected him enough to be somewhat polite.

Fate really decided to make a french person who talks english and an italian person who talks english and understands japanese meet just so the world could learn that HECULA IS CANON !!!
She was very interested in alchemy, though she never really had the chance to study it... until Mathias. They spent a lot of times together talking about the subject (him teaching her, mostly). She loved listening to him because he always sounded so passionnate <3
....she was tall BECAUSE LISTEN !!! TALL WIFE GOOD !!! Not nearly as tall as Mathias but very close <3 Tall couple. <3
Not headcanoning that she was pregnant when she died, but i very much like to headcanon that she had ask Mathias to retire and build a family with her. And Mathias was totally on board with the idea, but two possibilities: 1.He wanted to wait a while longer (because Leon and their men needed him on the battlefield or smth), maybe a year or so, or 2.The campaign he was in when she fell ill and died was supposed to be his last and he was going to retire after that. <3 In both scenarios, fuck God for taking his chance at a family of his own in this lifetime <3
I also like to imagine her as someone who takes no shit. She won't outright tell people who are obviously trying to get on her good side (to profit off her money or status) to fuck off, ofc, she stays classy at all times... but she won't fall for their lies/manipulations either. She's a very smart woman and that's part of the reason why Mathias loved her so much.

7- The power imbalance. Dracula is the Dark Lord, the most powerful evil being, Hector's master and father figure. Hector is just the boy who asked him for power and a home and love and who has no one else but him. <3 Unlike ISAAC, Dracula actually loves him over anyone else...
6- I lied, he doesn't. Lol. Dracula loves himself more. <3 (what is it with Hector and falling for men who prefers Dracula lmfao trevor don't you dare) And what he loves in Hector are things he sees as being the result of his doing, his teachings. Because he got a big ego and barely sees Hector as his own person <3 The fact that, once the possibility that Hector might have betrayed him, his first reaction was to ask for him back so he could basically torture him (turn him into a demon to drink sewage forever), while at the SAME TIME, "hope that [he is] mistaken" and is like "if he's dead, it's fine", shows that though he cares deeply enough to hope Hector didn't betray him... it's not deeply enough to be sad about him dying (or at least, not too much. just as sad as one would be in front of their broken toy :3). Or even start to forgive him for going against him. :) How dare he? Did he really thought he was important enough to be allowed that? That he had agency? Lol, lmao. Learn your place, love. <3
5- Dracula is a manipulative bastard (affectionate). Because Hector was never loved by any of his parents, and straight up ignored by his father, AND no one liked him outside of them anyway, he has no idea how healthy relationships looks like and what parental love should be like. So when he arrived in the Castle, he was like a blank paper-sheet, waiting for Dracula to write whatever he wanted in it :)
4- Hector doesn't have anyone else to love and be loved by <3 (he used to think he had Isaac, before he realizes how Dracula-centered he was. lol) No one showed him true passion like Dracula did :)
3- Even though he has all the good reasons to be completely brainwashed and convinced Dracula is the best and 100% right in everything, Hector somehow isn't. :) He still has his strong character, his boldness, his convictions. And even if he clearly loves Dracula and fear him all the same, he still finds the courage to go against him. Particularly like the version where he begs on his knees for Dracula to stop, thinking he might listen to him, only to get coldly ignored <3
2- Hector is Dracula's specialest boy and it can be literally so cute but can also be so fucked up especially since [insert number 6]🥺
1- Dehumanization... or the attempt at it :) Dracula doesn't love Hector for the person he is, but what he made out of him, and what he can give him. :) A replacement for his late wife? <3 A body to use as he see fit? <3 A general to lead his war for him? <3 A companion when he wants to rest? <3 Or a voice to listen to when he wants to relax? <3 Anything he wants out of Hector, he gets it. And it doesn't matter if he wants or not, it doesn't matter what he feels, he became his the moment he step foot in his Castle. The only moment Hector's feelings matters are when Dracula can use them for his own benefit and manipulate him <3 And yet Hector keep fighting back, fighting for his identity, for his humanity. Yes he has his moments of weakness, of helplessness in Dracula's arms... but he never truly lost what made him Hector. We all know how that ship end >:)
And then ofc there's your top and the 11th reason because there's too many to explain why I fell into this hell to be able to resume it into one top <3

Reason #11 Hecula is peak: the scenario of the forbidden, open secret relationship :) Hector and Dracula having private sessions or conversations :) Hector keeping Dracula's company in his private quarters when he needs to rest :) the two meeting in the darkest corners of the castle... perhaps with the help of said castle, who only wants what Dracula wants :) (also, you're free to imagine Hector hidden under Dracula's cape while he sneaks a kiss)
