People are so obsessed with power in its different forms like violence and social deviance in its different forms like violence and the terrible consequences that follow the decisions that bad people make like violence

and i have never - never ever never ever loved that. the same way I was never interested in mundane anxieties and problems as a teen

All that is obvious - it’s in the world everywhere you look - so why FOCUS on it in fiction? especially the first thing. especially if it turns into a non-narrative (like got) - a narrative that refuses to be a narrative and lies about being ‘just life’. no. a story can never be just life. it’s a story, it’s a statement, a vision, and in saying that there is no narrative to it’s narrative it makes itself one big scam (as people have experienced). if it sticks to its guns then it can obviously never satisfy

ANYWAY

this is why i adore hopeful stories. there is violence, there is grief, there are terrible people, and there are awful injustices.

but they are not the focus.

this is why i genuinely love Mad Max Fury Road. It’s why I love Horizon Zero Dawn and consider it a masterwork.

Against overwhelming odds and in the face of over overwhelming grief and injustice it said: there is something worth fighting for. And then they prove it.

What a fucking STATEMENT. WHAT A FUCKIN STATEMENT in this world

there is a place for tasting the lengths of human suffering that we cannot even imagine - but those stories don’t feel good for anyone - they’re not power fantasies, they’re not generally compelling. they’re uncomfortable and horrible just like real life. it acknowledges that there is no rhyme to any of it and everything can be broken beyond repair - no reason

Woke up to a very cold morning, had coffee and then cycled to the farm and fed Skye before going on to work, it was that cold that moisture in my gear cables and I was stuck in top gear, which was fun on the hills, work was quiet today but I got through some paperwork and little jobs that needed doing, finished work and had a nice cycle home from work but I think I’ve trapped a nerve in my neck…
