Bed bugs are very small insects that love to use warm-blooded animals’ blood for food! They can be very dangerous and pass disease. They especially love feeding on humans! Because of this, we need to understand what bed bugs are so that we can work towards fighting against them or getting rid of them entirely.
Bedbugs evolved throughout millions of years, eventually becoming what we know them as today – nest parasites. Instead of invading bird nests, they are now adapting to invade human-based domains.
When a bed bug is born, it is called a nymph. They are very small, around the size of a poppy seed. When they reach adulthood, they are around a quarter of an inch long. You can recognize them with your eyes – no microscopes needed!
Bed bugs can also vary in coloration. They can be white or tan, or even a dark brown to orange-ish color.
Some places bed bugs like to hang out are:
Certain structures are more prone to bed bugs based off of their use. Some of these would be hotels, apartment complexes, and places like army barracks. Pretty much any place there are lots of beds and warm-blooded humans, bed bugs will be attracted to it.
We will be going over some ways you can get rid of bed bugs and decrease the risk of being invaded by them within this blog. We wanted to get started with this overview of what bed bugs are and what kinds of places they like to hang out, that way you can understand their behaviors before we make efforts to exterminate them.
Thanks for joining us! Feel free to re-blog this post and share it with anybody who may own a hotel or have bed bugs in their home!
