Beckwith Year 1/ Week 2/ Day 2
It's Sunday, so it's the last official day of summer break. Off to the Old Towne Shops for some back to school shopping! It's a frosty morning!
Lynne went up to the gem cutting station with her inventory of gems.
I love to look out of the windows from inside random buildings..Somehow it gives a sense of reality to be able to see the city scape through a window. Unfortunately, you can't see much here because it's so gloomy outside and the windows are all frosted over. It's still pretty in its own way though :)
Torrey is busy shopping for camping supplies and books, while Alan seems to be picking out new furniture for his bedroom. Torrey!! Where are your shoes!!??
More of me looking out of windows..lol! This is from the restraunt on the Consignment lot..I was thinking about having them get food here, but no one is hungry yet.
It's around noon on a Sunday..Where is everyone in town going to be?? The dance clubs and pubs of course! LOL!
Oh no! The clerk at the consignment store is in need of medical assistance!
Dr. Torrey to the rescue, but she insulted him as soon as she was feeling better..Well that's gratitude for you!
We ain’t making no goddamn cornflakes here.
- Colonel Charles ‘Chargin’ Charlie’ Beckwith (pictured with his British SAS wings on his chest)
Colonel Charlie Beckwith was perhaps one of the most colourful and iconic American soliders of the 20th Century. He is the founder of 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta Foce. In other words he founded the legendary Green Berets.
After serving for a few years as a Green Beret, Beckwith joined A Squadron of 22 SAS in an exchange programme in 1962.
Whilst in command of the squadron's Mobility Troop, he became alarmed that the US did not have an equivalent or similar unit to the British Special Air Service.
Upon completing combat operations with 22 SAS in Malaya, he returned to the states with his freshly conceived idea of a brand new special operations unit. Beckwith restructured the Green Berets training, basing elements of it off what he'd learned in the UK.
Then in 1977, he was given authorisation to form Delta, alongside Colonel Thomas M. Henry.
The first Delta training course began in April of 1978, and focused largely on land navigation, on foot, over mountainous terrain with a heavy rucksack: just as SAS selection did.
