The traditional way of creating beats for music can either be one dimensional or many dimensional. Let’s take it back to the early days before computers and software were really involved in the music making process. You had a few options, and none of them were as expansive as what is out today. You could either record sound on tape, by using live samples and editing them together in the recording room. The better option would be to actually create a drum track using a sequencing machine that could mash it all together while keeping perfect time. These two options were, for a long time, the only way that music was produced. Fast forward into today’s technology, and songs can be pieced together using one mouse click at a time. In though – this seems like the best approach. We can have automated sequences handle the task for us, or we can actually surgically remove and add the parts of the music that we want. The only negative about this process is how boring it can be, doing things piece by piece.
