Pinestar and Nightwhisker family portrait.

Pinegaze and Nightwhisker were very much in love, but Pinegaze started to change after becoming leader. Nightwhisker chalked it up to missing the former leader (his grandfather) and stood by him. Nightwhisker didn't really want kits, but Pinestar was bound as RedwoodClan's leader to produce heirs so she was like "yeah fine" rather than send him off to be with another cat and/or lose him. Luckily she loved being a mother, cuz that def coulda gone sideways.
Bearkit was the only kit in her first litter. After he was born Pinestar changed and became obsessed with his possible heir being perfect, to the detriment of little Bearkit. Nightwhisker and Pinestar essentially cat-divorced over his treatment of their kit, but ended up making amends after Bearear became a warrior and Pinestar promised to be better.
Then, while Nightwhisker was pregnant with their second litter, Stormykit and Lightkit were born to Spottedshell and Gullshade. Pinestar was very cruel toward Lightkit to the point of saying she should be culled for her deformity. Nightwhisker lost it at that point and wanted nothing more to do with him.
Unfortunately there was only so much she could do to keep him away from their second litter, Flamekit and Shadowkit, once they were born. 💔
