And now here they are. Facing the consequences of their actions in the form of a giant forest critter (who also seemed to be freaking out)

"What happened? what went wrong?" Rosella asked.

"I don't know" Alexander replied.

"Should we tell someone?"

"I don't think that would be a good idea. What do we tell them? 'Sorry we turned the king into a giant badger because the mirror told us to'... that might cause more trouble, people might think there's something wrong with the mirror"

Alexander and Rosella stood in silence for a moment trying to gather their thoughts.

"What do we do now?" Rosella asked

"We try to find a way to reverse the spell and-" before Alexander could finish his sentence, he heard a knock on the door.

"And find a hiding place"

(Meanwhile Graham gets distracted eating from the storage boxes in the corner of the room, completely oblivious.)

As he continued walking he felt himself being suddenly lifted off the ground by large paws. He finally looked away from the map to see a worried expression on his father’s face, he examined his surroundings and noticed that he was heading straight towards a large patch of spiniferous thornweeds. 

Graham placed Alexander away from the plants and began to talk to him, unfortunately for Alexander, those words only came out as concerned growls.

It was nice to know that Graham cared, and was still aware even as a badger.

Graham wasn't very aware of not being able to speak normally, though, so a simple tap on the shoulder was enough to remind him.

They should be moving along now, though. Alexander continued, half-aware of his surroundings, when he tossed up and onto Graham's furry back.

A Beardger AU Fic

The cool autumn gusts blew the twins and their badger dad forwards, the chill being their motivation to get back before the weather got unbearable. Rosella held most of what the mirror had shown, so she was leader for the time being.

(Whether or not they could trust the mirror was debatable - it technically led Alexander into this mess, and now it was helping them get out of it - but seeing as no one else had ideas, they decided to follow the mirror's instructions.)

With less focus on where they were going, Alexander had his center of attention on his dad.

Graham walked upright, for it made him feel at least a little bit human, even when his beastly traits showed.

The approaching winter chill brought Graham to a slow. He fell behind as his body began to weigh on him. He covered his mouth with his paw when he yawned, though still trekking onwards.

Drowsy delirium took over, however, and he propped himself up on the nearest pole.

That pole happened to be scrawny Alexander.

The two dropped to the ground. Graham had fallen sound asleep, while Alexander scrambled for room to breathe.

"Wow, is dad hibernating?" Rosella joked.

"Um, well, I don't think you're wrong..." Alexander pulled out a book and flipped to the page on badgers. "Yeah, badgers don't really hibernate, but they do slow down when it gets cold."

"Aw, Dad! We can't just stop so you can sleep!" Rosella snorted. She yanked Alexander free, dusted off her hands, then inspected their sleeping badger dad.

"How do we wake him?"

"Well..."

They try a variety of methods. Shaking him, pinching him, making loud noises, even putting a strong flower against his nose! Yet, Graham doesn't budge.

Alexander slides against Graham, wiping sweat. "I think the winter weather is getting to me too."

Rosella plops down next to him. "Yeah, I'm spent."

They use their last bits of energy to drag Graham away from the clearing. They agreed to try waking him again when it was warmer.

Something something please calm your children Graham (he is also freaking out but they need this)
