Studio Visit - New Works by Michelangelo Alasa  Saturday May 19 at 7:30 PM 62 East 4th Street, NYC Two years ago after suffering a stroke, I began painting, until then I had been a playwright. I no longer write, I paint. I use images instead of words to express myself. You are invited to see my new work within two installations.  Grab a glass of wine and a knosh and wander through. (3rd fl) SALON is a my recreation of the salon and some seminal works of modern art collected by Gertrude Stein and her lover Alice B. Toklas at 62 rue de Fleurus in Paris in the early 1900's.  I recreated 8 paintings from her collection to give an indication what it must have been to be surrounded by what were to become masterpieces by Picasso, Matisse, etc. The first room has portraits of my inspirations, Marilyn, Andy Warhol, Garbo, Misia Sert, Nijinksy, Diaghilev, Chanel and the Blessed Mother. The second room is an homage to my spiritual mother Marilyn, whom I saw at a movie opening in 1960 inTimes Square. The third room is the Salon of Gertrude and Alice. (4th fl) Listen to the Language Between the Landscape and the Art. For the past 40 years I have been traveling every winter to the Hawaiian Islands. Year after year they never disappoint in helping me clarify and heal myself. This year on Maui,  I created a public art installation on Makena Beach which I have recreated. It was called Listen to the Language between the Landscape and the Art. A contemplative work set in a kiawe wood forest filled by classic art, music, birds, whales, butterflies, mystery, magic, miracles, illuminations and transcendence.
