Update: i have finished swapping their tags! i didnt have many posts about either of them, so it did not take me as long as i was worried it would. The original post is preserved below.
Back in january, Radioquiet realized that it looked like the bear cam viewers had, at some point, swapped the lookalike brothers 912 'Mufasa' & 913. For a bit of context, Radioquiet is one of the "super IDers" in the bear cam chat -- she is scary good at bear identification. So it makes sense that she was the one who caught this error!
Here's the relevant text from (one of) Radioquiet's posts about it, which i also linked above:
912 is the one with the shaggy shed who often is only around in the summer, and 913 is the one with an anvil-shaped head that shows up throughout the season.
As one bear cam viewer pointed out, this means that the three brothers -- 99, 912, and 913 -- have less of a nose swoop as their number increases, with 99 having the most upturned nose and 913 having a nearly flat nose. This should help us keep them straight in the future....assuming we can see their nose from the right angle, haha.
As i just learned about this today, this means that I now have to go swap all of my IDs of 912 and 913 on this blog. i hope to have it done by this evening -- i'll update this post once i finish swapping their tags.
