Ooo I was looking for an excuse to talk about these guys!!

Birdswap Grillby, aka Sunny, is a very social, quick-witted fire elemental. He’s primarily yellow, leading in to red and orange toward his face. He’s also got a knack for green magic and it sneaks into his flames from time to time, particularly on the lower half of his wings. His bird features are like a sun conure, which accounts for his vibrant, talkative personality.

As far as sexuality, he prefers the term pansexual (and likes the flag better, cause it has yellow) and doesn’t have particular preference for any gender. As long as someone is entertaining and can put up with his constant chatting, he’s happy! He does end up being rather high-maintenance as a partner though.

And from his perspective, he gets along with everyone! From others’ perspectives, he’s kind of a lot. (read: annoying.) He gets along shocking well with Phoenix though. Probably because Phoenix is used to so much bullshit already.

Horrortale Overgrowth Grillby, aka Husk, is another story entirely. There’s simply not much left of him. His magic, being made of fire, didn’t mesh well with Flowey’s takeover of the Underground. At first, it seemed he was simply immune to the plants, but somehow, something took root in him and forced its way through him. He has a charred, bark-like shell over parts of his body like armor, but it’s not particularly strong. His soul still flickers deep in his chest, but the rest of him is just dense smoke. It seeps out of the cracks in his “armor” and parts of that burnt shell fall off as he moves around.

Until he leaves the Underground, he has no personality. He either wanders around or sits in the skeleton brother’s house when they find him and bring him home. Inevitably, he gets back up and starts wandering again, but he can’t get past Waterfall.

Post-Underground, he slowly regains parts of who he is, but he’s never quite the same. He’s still more smoke than fire and has to come to terms with the fact that he’s so different now. Husk no longer cooks like he used to, but he can make some damn good smoked meat or fish. It’s a slow recovery for him, but as long as he’s still got some little spark in his chest, he’ll be alright.

Most of the others think he’s creepy as fuck though.

And finally Pink!Swapfell Papyrus! We’ve seen a little bit about Sweets in a previous post about his brother, but he’s been waiting to join the list for a while! Personality wise, he’s kind of just…fine. At a surface level, he’s not really nice or mean, just doesn’t give a shit about most things. He also doesn’t have the same holds with fighting that Rus does. Sweets will fuck you up and he’ll kill if he needs to.

He has a MAJOR sugar addiction (his drink of choice being flavored syrups, like you’d see at a coffee shop) and usually has edibles on-hand, although he has to take way more than average to have any effect. It’s just more candy as far as he’s concerned.

His hobbies include video games and professional level baking. Like he kicks ass at decorative baking, chocolate sculpting, or anything else in that realm. Especially when he’s had enough of something to be properly high.

That’s actually a tough one to answer because I don’t have a real timeline of a events for everyone meeting, so its just a lot of hypotheticals. There’s a lot of combos of the guys who would get together, but not really a set of past interactions.

How about “sitting on the other’s lap” for Tyto

A lot of folks seem to like the latest Grillby ask! It got more reblogs than my usual stuff, but I wonder if Grillby fans are just more likely to reblog writing lol. And I never mind when someone sends in multiple asks!

You’ve been dancing around this topic for nearly two months.

He knows that you like him.

You know that he likes you. His constant preening of you is obvious enough of that. It’s almost like he has to touch you when you’re near each other.

He’ll fix a button for you or pick a piece of lint off your shoulder. More than once he’s wiped a stray eyelash away with his thumb and you think something will happen… only for him to turn back to his work.

Gaster is a professional guy. You can respect that. But at this point you’d accept a love confession via PowerPoint! You just need him to actually say something!

Even his brothers have been bugging him to bring it up when they think you’re out of earshot. For some reason he just won’t. And you’re getting tired of waiting.

His back is turned to you, wings on display, as he fusses with some machine or other on the table. Gaster mutters to himself in frustration in that light, bird-like language only monsters seem to understand.

You know he hears you approach him, as he folds one wing closer to his body so you can see the table. You’re not here to ask about his projects again though. Instead, you inspect the gold-speckled wing next to you.

A single feather is out of place.

You gently align it with the rest of the wing, smoothing your hand over it.

Your skeletal friend doesn’t look at you, but can’t hide how his usually deft hands fumble the screwdriver he’d been holding. It clatters loudly on the table.

His face is dusted with familiar gold-colored magic. The speckles along his cheekbones are highlighted.

Fixing one feather got that much of a reaction?

Either you just majorly missed the mark on wing culture, or you’ve discovered why he hasn’t made any moves himself. The fact that his wing is still held steady before you tells you it must be the latter.

Skeletal fingers tap lightly against the table. You recognize that particular motion as one for when he’s deep in thought. Gaster won’t look at you.

You don’t want to keep waiting for him. So you won’t.

Your hand lightly wraps around his wrist and you pull it away from the table. He follows the movement, turning to face you.

His face is a mix of emotions, surprise and confusion mainly, as his eyelights flick between your face and your hand.

“You’re taking a break,” you tell him. He opens his mouth—undoubtedly to protest—but you continue. “I need you for something.”

Gaster says nothing else as he allows you to pull him out of his office and into the living room. You guide him over to the couch and gesture for him to sit.

He looks nervously between you and the couch for a moment, but ultimately does what you ask. He settles on one side of the couch, wings pushed to the sides to sit comfortably. His hands are folded in his lap as he looks to you for more information.

You move his hands out of the way and he actually squawks in surprise as you make you way onto his lap.

“What in stars’ name-?!”

He quiets as you sit back against his chest and pull one of his soft wings around you.

Gaster stays frozen for a few moments.

“I thought you were dragging me away from work to have a conversation,” he says slowly.

“We already had my side of this conversation,” you say sharply. “Just because I’m patient doesn’t mean I’ll wait for you forever.”

“I… Can’t you wait just a little bit longer…?” he asks quietly, almost under his breath.

“No. If you want me, you want me. If you don’t, you don’t. Which is it?”

Gaster finally moves, wrapping his arms around your waist and leaning his head forward onto your shoulder. He sounds almost desperate.

“I’m not ready.”

Your anger stalls.

This is the most vulnerability you’ve ever seen from this monster. He’s clinging to you like a lifeline.

It takes a few seconds to recognize his words for what they are. He wants to have something with you. He does, so why does he want more time?

You must take too long to answer, because you’re pulled from your thoughts by what could only be described as a sob. His wings curl tighter around you.

Any lingering trace of your earlier irritation flickers out. There’s something here that you’re missing. There must be.

“What do you need? To be ready?“

“I don’t know-”

“What- why aren’t you ready?”

“I don’t know!”

“Do you have to be ready?”

He pauses. You crane you neck to look back at him.

He’s staring at you in utter disbelief. You make no mention of the blue-gold tear tracks on his faces.

“No,” he whispers, awe clear in his voice. “I- I don’t, do I?”

“Why don’t we just try and figure this all out together? Whatever- whatever that mind of yours is getting stuck on, we’ll find it and move past it,” you suggest.

“You’re brilliant, you know that?” Gaster says. “I don’t know how you manage to get me out of my own head so easily.”

You can’t help what you say next.

“Crazy what happens who you actually talk to me, huh?”

Welcome back! I’ve also recently made an Ao3 account and started posting things there as well! And full disclosure, I literally just gave Farmtale Gaster a name so I could answer this post, I’ll update the names list after lol

As a general note for the Farmtale monsters, they’re all very inclined to being giving. Monsters in this universe evolved to have a great affinity for green magic for growing food and healing livestock, which took root (no pun in tended) as a high capacity for Kindness. Some monsters refuse to keep food animals because it makes them too sad.

Farmtale Papyrus- Jack—like all Papyruses—has ADHD, but he manages his incredibly well. If you put him at a desk, he would struggle, but on the farm? He’s thriving.

He taught himself how to fix complex machinery, how to calm unruly animals, how to build nearly any structure the farm could need, and how to solve countless other hands-on task. He learns by doing and he does it well. If something needs done, you call him!

Jack also prides himself on two specific things: his award-winning cattle and his award-winning pumpkins. Those are the staples of the skeleton brothers’ shared farm. The pumpkins are simply because Jack likes them, but the cattle supply both Firefly’s (Farmtale Grillby’s) burgers and produce milk which is, of course, important for bones.

Jack is also strong. Training doesn’t compare to the level of physical work he does on the farm. He’ll lift and load hay bales with ease, and he can pick up and move the cows. When he has more energy then he knows what to do with, he’ll go bench the TRACTOR. For fun!

Farmtale Sans- Most Sanses hide their deepest emotions behind a cool, collected mask, but Rye is just Like That. He doesn’t really have any deep dark secrets and if he did, he’d shrug them off. He gives everyone the benefit of the doubt and it takes a hell of a lot to get him off your back once he’s decided to help you. He’s a little like a big dog who’s no-thoughts-head-empty, but then follows you around as soon as you give it a treat. Rye isn’t stupid by any means, he’s just not scientifically inclined the way most Sanses are.

Rye is also one of the monsters who could never do the whole raise-an-animal-for-food thing. He loves them too much. That’s why he only raises birds and doesn’t involve himself with Jack’s cows at all. (But he will still eat the burgers at Firefly’s.)

Rye is great with the birds though. The chicks and ducklings follow him around like he’s a big ol’ mama bird, and it’s not uncommon to find him napping in the barn with a bunch of the hens. He sells eggs on the side and often trades them with Toriel in exchange for baked goods.

Farmtale Gaster- Scion, while still a caring monster, was never good at the social aspect of everything. Monsters from his world are all very sociable; bartering, supporting one another, and celebrating good harvests with big festivals. Scion just never enjoyed it. He’d go to please everyone, but he would love to stay at home with his books and his, high-researched, ridiculously specific, and nigh perfectly efficient orchard. There’s nothing he couldn’t grow with the right amount of time and information.

He keeps hundreds of acres of any fruit you could think of, and a number of cross-bred plants as well. Trees from completely different climates somehow thrive in the same orchard, meticulously maintained by him and him alone.

Scion loves it. He pours his heart and soul into what he does, but other monsters don’t always understand it. His version of caring is just so… data-driven. Each tree has a number and a plot on the digital map he keeps, with a log of its developments. To him, that’s exactly the same as a nickname and a photo album. As calculated as everything is, he would be devastated if anything happened to one of his trees.

Unfortunately, he also took the same approach to raising his two younger brothers. All their needs were met, to the best of his abilities, but he was never one to sit and play or read with them. It turned out alright though, they had each other for that.

Farmtale Grillby- Firefly is the heart of it all. A warm, safe place to stay, homemade drinks, and good company are all found as Grillby’s, and monsters are always happy to stop in. It’s common for his bar to be open well into the night, generally with an easy, peaceful atmosphere. Lodging is always available as well, at cheap for folks in a bind.

Firefly also makes all his own alcohol, supplied by local farms of course! His biggest contributor is Scion’s orchard and he takes joy in making sweet, fruity wines to trade back in return. Scion always has notes on how to improve it, which are usually sent via mail as a string of percentages and times. The two monsters are good friends, despite Scion’s weird communication habits.

Don’t let the demeanor of the rest of the Farmtale monsters trick you either, Firefly is a fighter! You mess with his friends and you mess with him!

As for who these guys wouldn’t get along with,

Jack struggles with any of the less-than-friendly versions of his brother. And Blue. It’s so different than what he’s used to that it’s just weird to him! He also tends to butt heads with some of the other Fell-variant monsters for various reasons.

Rye gets along with everyone, even if everyone doesn’t get along with him. As previously stated, Rye is cool with everyone for the most part, but other monsters (like Mal and Tyto for example) have issues believing he’s that laid back. Plus Rye’s tendency to flock to the Birdtale and Birdswap monsters causes varying levels of annoyance.

Scion stays so out of the way that if anyone has issues with him, he doesn’t know about it. The Horrortale!Overgrowth brothers unsettle him though.

I’m glad you sent one in for Dagger! He’s currently undergoing some personality updates to make him a better foil for Mal and Rus, as well as making his progression to Wraith (Horrorswapfell) make more sense.

Also! Some of these fluff asks end up less fluffy, cause I had an idea and I just roll with it.

The tension in the air is almost palpable.

The captain took a shortcut to who-knows-where to seethe and Rus made a hasty retreat to his room.

It irks you that the one monster here who causes the most problems is the one who feels entitled to stay put.

“Are you ever not a dick to everyone?” you ask him, not bothering to hide the irritation in your voice.

The skeleton just eyes you up and down, before turning to leave. It’s as if he doesn’t even think you’re worth replying to. This guy-!

“I’m not done talking to you, Gaster!”

To your surprise, he does actually stop and look back at you. You had wondered if that might do it. Almost no one calls him by his real name anymore.

Although you’re not surprised by his expression, which clearly indicates that he’s not taking you seriously. He’s humoring you.

“Well?” he prompts, “Say your piece if you must say it.”

You didn’t really think you’d get this far with him, but you’re not about to back down now. It doesn’t matter if they’re related, he can’t get away with treating your friends like that. You march right up to him.

“You can’t keep picking fights with them over nothing. They’ve nothing but kind to you after everything you did, and you still insist on being an asshole! Papyrus fought for you to have a place here even when Sans wanted nothing to do with you-”

He cuts you off.

“Awww, my baby brothers need you to fight their battles, human? Can’t monster up and kick me out themselves?” He’s smiling, you realize. Gaster thinks this is funny.

You’re beyond mad now. It’s bad enough that he pushes people around, but to blatantly bully the people who want to help him even when they know he doesn’t deserve it? Unacceptable.

You don’t know comes over you. Something about his smug, above-it-all attitude just pushes you over the edge.

You reel back and aim a punch directly at his sternum, full force.

For a just a split second, you see his expression fall to absolute shock, before twisting back into a curious smile. Gaster catches you hand easily and you think for sure that he’ll hurt you for even attempting that, but he doesn’t.

Your mind catches up to your actions as you remember that he’s significantly stronger than you. He easily pulls you toward him, forcing you to brace yourself against his chest. He wraps his free hand around your waist and grins down at you.

You avoid his gaze and try to pull away in a panic, but a summoned hand floats to your chin, gently tilting it up to face him.

“Hey now, where’s all that bravado from a moment ago?” Gaster asks, layering a fake sweetness into his voice. “You had something to say, and now you have my attention.”

Somehow you find your voice.

“Let me go,” you tell him firmly. Or at least, as firmly as you can manage given the circumstance.

He’s still smiling as he does exactly what you ask, although much more slowly than you’d have liked. The extra hand he’d summoned lingers for just a few seconds, brushing gently down your neck before vanishing.

“Is that all~?” His tone is almost teasing. Stars, you can’t stand him.

“Apologize to your brothers.”

Gaster barks out a laugh at that.

“Or what?”

You… don’t have an answer. This is one of the strongest monsters you know of. There’s no card you can play here. Although maybe-

“You’ll find out,” you bluff.

It’s obvious he doesn’t believe you. Even so, he raises his hands in defeat.

“I concede. I’ll play nice from now on,” he says, before leaning down to whisper into your ear, “but only because you asked~”

You’re left speechless as he straightens up and turns to leave again. He’s halfway through the door when, at the last second, he calls back over his shoulder.

It had taken a while to convince your husbone to agree to your game. You know he’s plenty smart enough for your little puzzles, even if it takes him a few extra minutes.

The hardest part was getting his brother to calm down enough to help you set everything up.

“I’m Going To Be An UNCLE?!”

“For the hundredth time, Paps, yes!”

He could hardly contain himself. You know how much family matters to the skeleton brothers, so you’re not at all surprised by his excitement. You just hope your man is equally as happy.

You think he will be, but you also know he’ll be stressed once the news settles in. You’ve both been trying for a while. No one was sure it was even possible though.

Alphys had told you it very well might not be, but still had you started on magic supplements to try and aide the process. That was her first and only invention since reappearing from the True Lab a couple years after the barrier broke. That story is for another day though.

Right now, you’re setting up white and red balloons. Aside from the usual pink and blue being a little too traditional for your taste, the ultrasound showed you a tiny little skeleton. You can’t exactly tell what gender they’ll be.

You suddenly hear the front door open. He’s home already?!

You and Papyrus share a glance before rushing to tidy up the scene around you.

Sans had gotten through your puzzles much faster than you’d expected. With Papyrus’s help to make them, you had been sure it would take him longer.

Thankfully, you had the grand reveal set up already.

The sound of the oven opening in the kitchen makes you and Papyrus both snicker. Sans’ finally clue was a joke about a “bun in the oven,” but that was referring to the goofy little toy oven you’d surrounded by balloons.

Your ultrasound photos are inside.

The next thing you hear is the irritated click of your partner’s metal jaw. He’s undoubtedly trying to rethink the clue, since the actual oven wasn’t the answer.

You take pity on him (and Papyrus, who’s basicaly vibrating with excitement beside you) and call out “We’re in the living room, hun!”

Sans almost trips on the carpet with how quickly he rushes into the room. His eyes are solely on you, almost frantic.

You can only smile and gesture at the tiny toy oven in front of you. You’re sure that if you try to say anything right now, you won’t be able to stop the tears.

There’s no doubt in you mind that you lover knows exactly what’s going on by now, by the way he delicately opens the little plastic door.

He shakily retrieves the envelope from inside and opens it. The second he sees the photos, his eyelights go wide. They instantly warble into red hearts that nearly take up both sockets.

Papyrus can’t stand it anymore and rushes to pull you both into a hug, red tears streaming down his face.

“CONGRATULATIONS, BROTHER!!!”

That breaks you both, and suddenly you’re trapped in a hug with two massive, watery-eyed skeletons. You don’t mind at all.

You partner’s deep, broken voice is as quiet as ever, even with so much emotion.

“‘m a dad?” he croaks, “‘s real?”

You pull back to look into his bright, loving eyelights.

“Yes, sweetheart, they’re real,” you promise. “Alphys even said they’re healthy.”

He looks like he’s going to melt in your arms.

“And they’ve got your old magic trait. She said they’ll have orange magic as their dominant color. Big and brave, just like my handsome man.”

Papyrus seems to sense what’s about to happen and evacuates the hug.

Sans promptly latches onto you, nuzzling and nipping at your face and neck while you can’t help but laugh. His deep, rumbling purr is louder than you’ve ever heard it.

“Go Canoodle Elsewhere, Heathens.” Papyrus says, but there’s none of his usual dramatized annoyance. His voice is even shakier than yours.
