Bryce Dallas Howard directing “Chapter 4: Sanctuary” of The Mandalorian (2019)
“When something you’ve been working on so hard comes out, your brain just explodes. When the episode came out on Friday, I woke up with my kids and watched it with them at 7 a.m. and then literally fell asleep right afterwards and slept many hours. [...] I just fell into a coma from processing it. My work had just aired, and I was so elated. [...] I think [my pinch-me moment] was of course directing Baby Yoda. He is the light of all of our lives; it’s so exhilarating to be able to share my love and obsession with him with others. Working with the raiders too was so much fun; my kids would call them the pug men — when you see the masks and the full characters, it really starts to feel like Star Wars.” - Bryce Dallas Howard
“My director for [Episode 4 of The Mandalorian] Bryce Dallas Howard has a fire in her eyes and a laugh that will echo through a studio and have you smiling for no reason. She’ll sit down with you after an 18 hour day and have the same positive energy as she had in the early morning. She teaches makeup tricks and tells stories about being in this business her entire life, having seen it from every department. I just adore you and hope every dream your heart makes comes true. A passionate director who takes care of her actors and the story. Thank you for teaching me so much. 🌹 I like this photo cause she looks fierce.. we joke about how we are completely cast for the opposite roles but how much we’d like to trade places... the thing is.. she is a badass, real life super woman. 💯” - ginajcarano on Instagram
I think everyone has what it takes to be a good actor innately within them. It’s really about connecting to your own humanity and your own behaviors, and getting to a level of self-awareness so that you can have perspective and step outside of yourself and transform and become another person.
Sometimes people are like, 'Do you want to play strong women?' I don't have to play strong women in order to feel like a strong woman myself, but I do feel it's important to play characters that are complex and interesting and believable.
