Ok look I'm doing it I'm asking because I've been wondering about this for a while:
So, with your most recent post and such, how old are your Cornered guys actually? Say, for example, at the beginning of the main storyline?
Been trying to solve this mystery but my only lead was going by Bakura's lengthy education and career building. From the bonus-ficlet we know that he started his 'hobby' during med school. When during med school? Studying medicine takes around six years. And then after that it's another six years for the surgeon training. So that already makes twelve years after graduating high school, landing on age 30. But to build a reputation as a top tier surgeon, it must have taken him another couple years, right? So, at least for Bakura, would my estimate be right that at the beginning of Cornered he must be already 35+?? And also holy shit how many victims would that be?! Like hello? HELLOOOO??

Anyways……. Okay listen….. I may have sprinkled some fanfiction magic in here—Or at least when I FIRST started writing. I don’t mention their ages really for a reason, because I like making it so it can be like. Anything? And believable? Like it’s not something we are thinking too hard about here but I digress okay let me get into my thoughts and my Cornered math:
In Cornered 2, I’ve been imagining that Ryou and Malik are nearing their mid thirties. Maybe like 33 or 34. That means that the events of Cornered took place 3-4 years prior, so in Cornered, Ryou and Malik are late 20s so 27-30. Again, I was never nailing myself down to an age for them, just a vagueness.
Now, for Bakura…. Well… I always felt like he was one or two years older than Ryou. I also imagined that someone like him would have been able to fudge his way through med school— By what means?? I don’t know. He’s pretty smart (ugh, I guess), but I think a more important aspect of his character is that he’s charming (ugh) and manipulative. Those two qualities can unfortunately take you pretty far BCBSBCJ Like I just imagine him being the epitome of privilege and good stuff just sort of. Happened for him.
SO having said that, in Cornered, Bakura would be 30-33. Yeah. I know that’s crazy considering med school and assistantships and residencies and shit but hey it’s a fanfic and maybe this is just a testament to how horrible he actually is— Manipulative enough to convince everyone around him he’s god’s gift to medicine. Probably saved a life or two and word spread and he ate it up or something.. idk BDHSHF (more on his past in cornered 2 tho…. Shhhhhh)
but like I said I didn’t put their ages in there sort of on purpose because I know something like that isn’t really believable and it could take you out of the story. You could also see Bakura as a properly established doctor in his late 30s or 40s and see Ryou the same way. I actually watched the show Hannibal AFTER writing Cornered (hard to believe, I know. I was jaw on the floor when I watched that godforsaken show), and I could see Ryou and Bakura being similar age-wise to Will and Dr. Lecter lol
