As a firm BCE/CE user, sometimes I run into folks who think I might be opposed to it because I don't like Christianity.
No, nothing like that. As a Catholic, I dislike BC/AD not because it's associated with Christianity, but because it's a confused blend of English (BC) and Latin (AD), and that's just sloppy. Also it seems to cause confusion among Christians who sincerely think they're "Before Christ" and "After Death (of the aforementioned)."
No, Jesus Christ wasn't crucified until like thirty years and change after he was born. He didn't just have one spectacularly eventful day where he was born, performed a bunch of miracles, and then was crucified. They didn't even happen in the same part of the year.
Similarly, the calendar used by the different Christian churches didn't just have a leap period of a few decades to skip the evidently unimportant period where Jesus was alive and gathering his apostles. Like, come on, think about it for a second.
Does Year Zero Actually Exist?
Today, while driving, a random thought popped into my head. That’s usually how these questions start for me. Does Year Zero actually exist? You’d think something as monumental as the birth of Jesus Christ would kick things off at zero. Clean. Logical. Satisfying. Turns out, not even close. In the calendar most of us use today, there is no Year 0. The system jumps straight from 1 BC to AD 1 like…
YOU FUCKING IDIOTS AD AND CE ARE THE SAME FUCKING THING! THE EVENT IS STILL THE DEATH OF CHRIST! ITS JUST A NONRELIGIOUS WAY TO SAY IT! SHUT UUUUUUUUP!!!!

don't trust anything from the last ten years that uses BC and AD instead of BCE and CE
