steve  knew  —   everyone  knew  —-  that  he  was  nancy’s  first  love .    her  first  relationship .    he  showered  her  with  love  &  affection ,    even  when  nancy’s  cheeks  flushed  and  she  scolded  him  in  a  way  that  made  it  clear  she  really  didn’t  mind  it .   their  first  valentines  day  together  was  something  nancy  had  been  fretting  over  for  weeks ,    unsure  of  what  to  do .    karen  was  able  to  offer  some  level  of  comfort ,     soothing  her  nerves  &  helping  her  pick  out  a  gift  for  steve .    the  watch  she’d  settled  on  was  nice ,   and  stylish  despite  not  being  very  fancy .   she  wrapped  it  carefully ,    tied  a  white  ribbon  around  the  box  for  luck .    

valentines  day  landed  on  a  weekday ,     which  meant  nancy  didn’t  have  to  wait  long  to  see  steve .    he  pulled  up  to  the  wheeler  home  in  the  early  morning ,     reliable  as  always  in  giving  nance  a  ride  to  school .    she  scampers  down  the  drive  to  his  car ,    gift  in  hand ,    only  to  see  that  the  passenger  seat  is  already  occupied .   a  surprised  giggle  bubbles  from  her  lips  as  steve  steps  out  of  the  car  to  greet  her ,    a  goofy ,    prideful  smile  on  his  face .   after  their  kiss  hello ,    arms  wrapped  around  each  other  &  so  sweet  it  made  her  head  spin ,    she  immediately  asks ,    amusement  sparkling  in  her  words ,   ‘  did  you  buckle  him  in ?  ’    

emotionally intense prompts. ↳ @bbs1t said “ things must be catastrophic if you’re calling me at this hour. ”

His words caused a smile creep on her lips. ❝Sorry I didn't look at the time before calling.❞ How could she have? The dream had felt so real and so consuming that she reached for the phone dialing in his number. Hearing another person voice brought a slight comfort; comfort that she was back in reality. It grounded her enough to try and push the horrid visions from her mind. Some of the panic she felt was starting to fade, but the gnawing feeling in her chest remained.
