Religious leaders to join politics come 2022
The church in Kenya has expressed its dissatisfaction over the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report meant to cause changes in the Kenyan constitution that came to use in the year 2010 despite of some amendments that were promised to be changed as the years went by.
Church leaders have come out to say that all their issues were not considered, rejecting abortion and Islamic Kadhi courts, and this would lead to them participating fully in active politics come the year 2022 where they will support a candidate from the grassroots regions in Kenya.
Lead by Bishop Kariuki, they have asked for the pioneers of the BBI report The President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta and leader of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Raila Odinga to convene a national delegates meeting to address issues in the report.
Kariuki added that they have no problem having President Uhuru`s term being extended if it meant it gave room for more dialogue on the report.
Some church leaders have won elections before including Bishop Margaret Wanjiru.
Kenya is yet to go to a referendum to decide whether the report will be passed and the proposed changes be made in the 2010 constitution, even as the country battles a second wave of Covid 19, it is set to be on the ballot come 2022 for their National elections, which has created a lot of interest politically with President Uhuru and his Deputy Dr. William Ruto appearing to have different interests.
