"There are many benches that are empty and available in this park, and yet you have chosen to sit here. Why?"
River crinkled the newspaper in her hands, thinking of the words over and over again. The Bindlebrim Banner wrote the article almost a week ago, but it wasn't until now that she had the time to do some investigating. It had been so long since anyone had died in this town it seemed. Of course, she didn't wish for a person to die, but River needed something to investigate. She had been spending way too much time doing freelance work on people's computers. River folded the newspaper up and stuck it in her bag. The clinic wasn't too far away from her apartment.
"So, it was like one person who died, yeah?" Ash, River's ghostly friend, said. She suddenly materialized beside the necromancer. "I'm thinking murder." River saw every death in this town as suspicious. There were supernatural creatures roaming all over the place. There were bound to be some deaths caused by them. Uncontrolled werewolves, seductive vampires, and even vengeful witches. "It is possible," River said. She didn't take these matters lightly. She stood in front of the burnt clinic, wondering if any spirits of the dead were lingering here. "You should probably present yourself as a volunteer," Ash said, looking up at the remains of the building. "That is exactly what I was thinking," River replied, wondering how long the volunteers would be there to clean the mess. There weren't that many volunteers since the place was almost cleaned up, which was good news for River.
She felt a tap on her shoulder. River brushed her hair back, turning to face the person. "Am I in your way?" she asked.
Talia handed over her money to the local mechanic, who talked on and on about how she should just get a new car while she counted out her bills. "I'll get a new car eventually." She assured him, it was the same promise she'd been making for years. Customizing a new car to suit her needs would be exhausting, and without her dad around it would be almost impossible. Speaking of which...Talia took her phone out of her pocket and started typing as she walked to Scooter's Tavern for a game of pool or two so she could kill time. 〚 Text to Dad: What's your location? Where are you? Look, I know you're busy. But can you please just shoot me a text. So I know that you're alright? -Talia〛
Talia could have gone to the Hangar or even the Kaffine but being a waitress at the Hangar made her almost never want to go there outside of her shifts and as for the Kaffine...She didn't really feel like running into family. So she shoved her hands into the pockets of her leather jacket and made her way into the bar.
Click. Click. Click. The repetitive sound of her pedometer kept her rhythm as she ran along her normal route. She didn't want to admit it was patrol, but the bag strapped tightly to her back wasn't a fashion accessory and neither was the disconcerted bun on the back of her head. Talia did however have excuse after after for the odd attire and kept an ipod on her for appearances. She did the same routine every night. At different times and different starting points but the route was extensive, she lapped the whole town twice running through both forest and city before collapsing on her bed for the night. Unfortunately, her bed would have to wait. She had only been running for thirty minutes when she stopped to take her first water break. Her legs still remembered the days where thirty minutes was all she could do before completely giving out. Limits Are Made To Be Pushed.
She reminded herself of that constantly, and when she was younger she embodied it with all of her heart and soul. Long hours, little sleep, blisters, broken bones, sprains, bruises and cuts. All of them served as stepping stones toward a purpose, and the look of gratitude on someone's face was worth it every time. Her back pressed itself firmly against the bark of the old tree as she took a drink from the oversized water bottle she carried with her. Sweat glistened over her skin, as careful eyes never stopped surveying the situation around her. Shifting her left foot forward, Talia's weight became evenly distributed as her highly trained ears picked up a sound in the distance.

The weight of a wooden baseball bat in his grip was a heavy one, and though he was of steady hands, his fingers anxiously tapped against the rotten surface. As if hearing someone walk around and not being able to identify their position wasn't terrifying enough, the lights were going out as well and the witch was all too tempted to simply recharge the electricity with magic but just as equally scared to out himself to someone who might endanger his fellow mates - so yeah, the latter won over. He was standing in the hallway, able to hear only his breathing in the silence that settled in right after a short dull thump, when a shadow of a silhouette behind his back finally appeared and had him jumping on his feet to turn to the other side, hand at ready to swing "Shit, you scared the hell out of me! What the hell are you doing here?"
"You go on in five minutes, five and not a second later." Aria growled through the door, her hands gripping at her clipboard as though it was the insubordinate musicians throat. Up until now the jazz festival has flowed without a hitch, music swelling through the streets of Bindlebrim - hypnotic and, admittedly, incessant. Aria took credit, perhaps more than due, for the smiles on the faces of the children as they bounced through crowds, cotton candy in hand listening for once to something that wasn't on the Frozen soundtrack - not that she didn't try to convince Sergio to duet with her whenever possible.
She stomped away from the trailers, her dainty hands balled into fists so tight she could feel the blood drain from her knuckles leaving them as white as the bones that hid beneath the skin. Hearing the sound of scurrying behind her, she groaned. Musicians were really useless. "Five minutes or I will rip your tongue out of your mouth!" Her threat came out as a whisper slipping between her clenched teeth.
Turning toward the person, her hair flipping as she spun - she formed a perfect O with her mouth realizing it wasn't who she thought at all. "Sorry." She smiled waving the clipboard in the air as if it explained it all away.
River slid into a booth at Vince’s Diner. Her hair and clothes were soaked by the rain, but none of that mattered. She sighed, finally able to relax her legs for a little while. She ordered a coffee and proceeded to open the note that was stuck under the windshield wiper of her car. She glanced up, noticing a shadow blocking her light. “Estoy ocupado. Déjame en paz,” she said coldly. River was tired of hearing the Jazz music and it had only been playing for about a couple of hours. She did not listen to a lot of different kinds of music, but she knew she didn't like Jazz music.
