âShhh, theyâll hear us,â Vex hissed into Percyâs ear, and he stopped fiddling with Animus, trying to reload the pistol with trembling fingers.
âWe need a plan,â he murmured back, his breath hot along her neck. âWe need to find the others and we need a plan.ââWe never do well with plans, darling.â Percyâs answering laugh came out through his nose. âDonât I know it. So, then we charge out of here and see what happens on the count of three then?ââRight. OneâŚâ Vex shifted away from the cold stone wall of the alcove, bringing one hand to grab an arrow from her quiver, careful not to hit Percy in the face with her elbow.âTwo,â Percy said, sliding Animusâ firing mechanism back in place with an audible click. And Vex closed the distance between them, catching his lips in a forceful kiss. He caught her eye as she broke away, breathing hard and trying not to chase after her. She just smiled and whispered âthree.âTogether they charged out of the alcove, weapons drawn, and back into the fray.
