i've recently been listening to a lot of arvo part - his te deum and magnificat especially, though not sure how familiar the text is to you! they're also not especially long. in a similar musical style is gorecki's miserere (which is just domine deus noster/miserere nobis over and over again, so that might work or it might not!). his five marian songs are also beautiful and in polish. i've also been trying to find tavener's wonderful liturgy to st john chrysostom recently, but with little luck.
also, not sure how you feel about messiaen (i know he can be divisive at times), but for something completely non-choral, his vingt regards sur l'enfant-Jesus is really beautiful, and it's 2 hours. it was written for yvonne loriod (his wife!), so look out for recordings where she is the performer.
have i yet told you how wonderful you are??? i should have, long ago.
this is just a fab set of recs. acj Arvo Partās Te DeumĀ is a gr8 fave of mine & in fact iād already turned it on when i picked this up! iāll check out the MagĀ some other time but on the strength of this iāve been listening to Goreckiās MiserereĀ and itās perfect - thank you so much.Ā i love his Sorrowful SongsĀ so shall check out the Marian stuff too!
