Y/n was on the phone, talking to April. Â âIâm sorry about your job, April, but I canât say I blame her.â
âYou could have backed me up.â Â April retorted.
âYeah, so I sound like a nut, too. Â Besides, they said not to tell anyone.â Â Y/n argued, pausing briefly. Â âBut all of this is still crazy. Â So, Eric Sacks and your father were the ones who created the turtles? Â Or rather, made them how they are?â
âYes. Â They created the mutagen to help people.â
âEverything is so hard to believe.â Â Y/n admitted.
âWell, I-â April suddenly stopped.
âApril?â Â Y/n called into the phone.
âItâs my computer.  It was hacked by Donatello.  He wants us to meet him at âfourth-avenue and twelfth-streetâ.â  She informed.
âWhat? Â When?â Y/n questioned.
âNow, I guess.â Â She replied. Y/n could hear jingling of keys from the other side of the room. Â âIâll see you soon.â
âWait!â
âWhatâs up?â
âLetâs stay on the phone in case something goes wrong.â Â Y/n suggested.
âUm, okay.â
The girls chatted as they made their way to the rendezvous point. April arrived first, looking around for Y/n.
âHey!â Â She heard Y/n shout. Â April looked over, seeing the girl wave at her. Â Y/n jogged up, hanging up her phone.
âHello?â Â April called into the air. Â âYou told us to come here! Â I brought Y/n with me. Â We did exactly what you-â
A thud was heard behind the girls and April let out a scream, spinning around, while Y/n flinched considerably, also turning.
âOkay! Â Are you April Oâ Neal and Y/n L/n?â Â Mikey asked, looking them over.
âInitiating retinal scanâŚâ  Donnie informed, walking over with his goggles down and the machine on his wrist activated.  âScanning, scanning, scanning, scan complete!  Itâs them!â
âWas there really any doubt?â Â Y/n wined, wiping her eyes because of the harsh light. Â April backed away too, spinning right into Leoâs arms.
âOf course itâs them, Donnie.â  Leo spoke. He looked down at April. âHey!â  He greeted casually, though with a slightly sinister tone. Y/n didnât even see him and Raph come in.  âReally glad you guys could make it.â  He spoke as April backed away from him.  âThereâs someone really important we want to introduce you guys to, but first.â
Y/nâs eyes widened as she saw Raph place a sack over Aprilâs head. âHey!â Â She shouted. Â She began to rush forward, but a sack was placed over her head as well, blocking out most things. Â She could still see vague shapes, but she had a few blind spots, and the colors and details were a little wonky. Â âHey!â She repeated as she felt arms wrap around her. Â âGet off!â She demanded, struggling against the grip.
âHey, calm down!  Itâs me, Donnie!â  The turtle spoke.  Y/n grunted, having managed to squirm out of his grip.  Donnie let out a surprised squeak.  She ripped the sack off her head, seeing Raph have a hand on Aprilâs shoulder, moving her to Mikey.
âWatch her.â Â He instructed. Â Y/nâs eyes widened in fear and alarm. Â Raph began taking heavy steps toward her. Â âDonât resist.â
âYeah, cause that sounds comforting!â  Y/n shouted, backing up.  She backed up too far, because her back was pressed against the plaster of Leoâs chest.  She squealed and ducked down, avoiding his arms trying to wrap around her.  She tried to crawl through Raphâs legs, but he grabbed her ankle.  She let out a yelp as he lifted her above his head, looking her in the eyes with a scowl. âWhy are you guys doing this?â She demanded, holding her shirt so it didnât ride up.  She was thankful it was dark, because she was certain her face was red.
âYou canât know where our lair is.â Â Leo reasoned. Â Y/n turned her head to see him, though she was still dangling in front of Raph.
âWhy would I tell? Â I wasnât the one who went blabbing.â Â Y/n reasoned, crossing her arms. Â She quickly realized that in doing so she had stopped holding her shirt, so she hurried to grab it, holding it at her waist again. Â Leo sighed, remaining silent for a few moments.
âWhat do we do?â Â Donnie questioned.
âYou promise you wonât tell?â  Leo asked.
âI wasnât the one who went around telling people! Â Itâs not like anyone would believe me anyway.â Y/n told him.
âPromise?â
âI swear on my life, I wonât tell anyone.â Â Y/n spoke. Â The turtle in blue paused.
âFine; but youâre going with Raph.â
Y/n turned her head, looking over at the massive turtle. âFine.â Â She grumbled. Â She expected Raph to put her down on the ground, but instead he threw her over his shoulder. Â She sighed, placing her hands on the back of his shell for stability.
âLetâs go, boys.â Â Leo instructed. Â The other three turtles all followed Leo, jumping across rooftops. Â Y/nâs eyes widened as Raph leapt through the air. She had never been this high up in her life, not at this speed anyway, and she was kind of terrified. Â She let out a small gasp and closed her eyes, clinging onto Raphaelâs shell tighter. Â She felt him wordlessly tighten his grip around her body.
The next thing she knew, the turtles were sliding down the sewer, making their way through the maze of tunnels. Â They slid through an opening, where they landed on the ground. Â Y/n looked around, seeing a wall where a few weapons were hanging. Â She cocked an eyebrow as the turtles walked through a few rooms, giving her a little bit of time to see what was going on. Â When they entered a rather large room, Y/n looked at several monitors all positioned above a desk. Â She opened her mouth, about to comment on it, when Mikey cut her off.
âAw, yeah! Â Welcome to my crib, girls!â Â Mikey exclaimed, leading a still blinded April through. Â Raph placed Y/n on the ground, where she had to briefly try to remember how to use her own legs.
âWhere are we?â Â April asked.
âHey, itâs our Fortress of Solitude!â  Donnie spoke.
âOur Hogwarts!â  Mikey added.
âOur Xavier Academy!â  Donnie continued.
âOur next generation, state of the art, wonder-dome!â Â Mikey exclaimed.
âUgh.  Are weâŚ..in the sewer?â  April asked.
âNooo.â Â Mikey replied, his tone worried. Â Y/n hid a grin.
âTechnically, yes.â Â Donnie corrected.
âYeah, yeah. Â Itâs the sewer.â Â Mikey admitted. Â The sack was lifted off her head, revealing her messed up hair and slightly confused face. Before her, and now Y/n just noticed, stood a rather large rat, wearing a robe of sorts. Â He was smaller than the turtles, but still bigger than a normal rat. He then spoke.
âYou brought us here, April.â
âSplinter?â Â April breathed, taking a step forward. Â Y/nâs eyebrows bent low in confusion as she looked over to the brunette.
âHowâd she know his name?â Â Donnie asked softly.
âDid you tell her his name?â Â Leo asked.
âMaybe sheâs a jedi.â Â Mikey whispered.
âCome closer.â  The rat instructed.  April walked forward, slightly cautiously.  Everyone else stepped closer as well, wanting to see what would happen. âItâs been a long time.â  The rat spoke.  They were only a foot apart now.  âYou always did have your fatherâs eyes.â
âI donât understand.â Â She spoke quietly.
âThat makes two of us.â Â Y/n muttered.
âDonât be afraid. Â All will be made clear.â Â He assured.
âThis is crazy.â
The rat gestured to the ground. Â âPlease, sit.â Â He offered. April sat down, while Splinter did also. The rat turned to Y/n. Â âWould you like to sit as well?â
âNo, Iâm good.â Â Y/n answered. Truth be told, she was still wary and wanted to be on her feet in case something happened.
âVery well.â Â Splinter spoke. Â He then turned. Â âListen closely, April.â Â He began. âI donât remember a time before living in that laboratory.â Â He spoke as the turtles sat down. Â They huddled around as if Splinter was telling a group of small children a bed-time story. Â âThat fateful night started like any other. Â Sacks gave us our injections. Â Your father made sure our vital signs were strong. Â And you, as always, provided us with a special treat.â Splinter spoke softly.
âThis is nuts.â Â Y/n mumbled.
âAfter the brothers went to sleep, I heard loud voices.â  Splinter continued.  He took a momentâs pause.  Though for effect, or simply struggling with the memory, Y/n wasnât sure. But he continued.  âThere was the smell of smoke.  Alarms sounded.  Your father had discovered the truth behind the man he was working for.  He set fire to the lab.  His last breath was taken trying to stop Shredderâs plan.  I was terrified.  But then you appeared, and ushered us to safety.â
Y/n shifted her weight to one leg, crossing her arms to get more comfortable. Â âWhat is going on?â Â She whispered, rubbing her forehead with one of her hands.
âI never had a voice, then.â  Splinter informed.  âBut I thank you now, April.â  He hummed softly to himself, remembering.  âWe wandered the sewers until we found this place.  It was then when the mutagen that was injected into our blood began to change us miraculously.â  He took a moment to smile.  âI saw how your father loved you, and I knew I had to show that same love to the turtles.â
Y/n smiled softly, looking over at the seated boys. Â The idea of them as tiny turtles, compared to how big they are now, was simultaneously the funniest, and cutest mental image Y/n had ever experienced.
âI became their father.  And they became my sons.â  Splinter voiced.  âLike all children, they were drawn to the distractions of popular culture.  And I knew one day they would want to explore the world above.â He spoke.  âThey would be ridiculed.  They would need to learn to protect themselves, both mentally and physically.â
Y/n hadnât realized that the turtles had stood, being so invested in the story. Â Splinter kept talking.
âAnd then, I found a way.  First, I would teach myself the ancient art of ninjutsu.â  He paused, smiling fondly.  âThe brothers followed my lead, accelerating at a wondrous rate!  Their gift was also their passion.  They lived, breathed and dreamed all things martial arts. ThenâŚ.they were ready.  Everything they areâŚ..and everything that theyâve become was made possible by the bravery that you displayed on that fateful night.â
âI was just a little girl.â Â April defended.
âAnd you gave us freedom, where others would have kept us in cages.â  Splinter argued. Â
âWait a minute, Dad.â Â Leo interrupted. Â âAll these years you told us we were rescued from the fire by a great guardian spirit: the Hogo-sha.â
âThatâs right.â  Splinter agreed.  He gestured at April.  âThis is the Hogo-sha.â
âWhat?â Â April muttered under her breath. Â Y/n saw Donnie pull down his goggles, no doubt scanning her for anything âspirit-likeâ. The silence was thick. Â Leo stepped forward suddenly, bowing respectfully. Mikey followed suit, then Donnie.
âMy girlfriendâs totally the Hogo-sha.â Â Mikey whispered. Â Leo slapped him in the arm, still bowing. Â Y/n obviously highly doubted that April was a spirit, but she wasnât the only one standing. Â She noticed that Raphael had also decided not to bow, and instead stood tall with his arms crossed. Â Y/n looked up at him, seeing a doubtful look on his face as well. Â The other three turtles stood up, giving Raph a few looks.
âWhy did you bring me here?â  April asked.  She shook her head.  âBring us here, I mean.â
âTo find out who you told of our existence.â Â Splinter clarified.
âNobody that believes me.â Â April answered. Â âExcept for Eric Sacks.â
Y/n raised an eyebrow as she looked to Splinter, curious of how he would react. Â He gasped softly.
âSacks. Â Just as I feared.â Â He said, standing. Â The large rat turned to Y/n.
âAnd you, have you told anyone?â
Y/n shook her head. Â âNo.â She gestured to the turtles beside her. âThey told me not to.â
Splinter breathed a small sigh of relief before turning back to April.
âSacks is not a friend.â  He explained patiently.  âHis soul has been poisoned by the influence of a dark master: the Shredder.  Shredder practically raised Sacks in Japan.  Heâs like a father to him.  Sacks will do anything for him.â
âWait, wait.â Â Raph spoke up. Â âSacks and Shredder? Â So why arenât we out there huntinâ them down?!â Â He questioned, beginning to pace.
âBecause, Raphael, the Shredder is a skilled warrior.â  Splinter reasoned.  âHis cruelty is over-reaching.  And you are just teenagers.â
Y/n turned to the turtles, a look of surprise on her face. She was fairly young herself, nineteen, but they acted so much older. Â Well, all but Mikey. Â She had totally forgotten that Mikey had mentioned it earlier, saying about âthey could still have adult conversationsâ.
Raph growled in protest.
âThe mutagen in your blood is of great value to them.â Splinter explained. Â âNow that Sacks has confirmation that you are alive, I fear they will bring the fight to us.â
Y/n saw April reach into her jacket from the corner of her eye. Her eyebrows furrowed as she watched the brunette. Â âApril?â Y/n questioned. Â âWhatâs up?â
April pulled something out of her jacket pocket, looking at it. She then spoke.
âOh, no.â
