I realised something about new critical role characters
In the first campaign the characters were outstanding examples of the typical adventuring tropes and the subversion of them such as Grog was was a fierce fighter but also a giant teddy bear or like Scanlan who was both a perfect example of a bard and the perfect opposite of one singing songs about sex and poop but also loving his daughter and slowly becoming a worthy husband to pike and seeing these tropes interact with each other and the world was part of the fun.
but now in campaign 2? what even are these characters? they don’t conform to any preconceived notions or stereotypes about dnd or any other game, they’re new and untested like children blinking into the sun such as fjord who at first glance seems like a classic tough guy but in reality he’s a warlock discovering his magical powers and Mollymauk who is unique as he is a character wrapped almost completely in mystery but manages to be completely indifferent to that mystery, so now everything they do feel revolutionary because we have these awesome new characters doing it. For example if vox machina had to order books at the library you would have a basic idea of how each party member would feel about it and the excitement would come from how the players dealt with these feelings and how far they took their actions however with the mighty nein you can certainly TRY to predict what they’re gonna do but you don’t really know and there’s true excitement in that. literally anything could happen!
and i mean what even is jester?
I drew a Beau! I finally watched Babs Tarr teach Marisha how to draw Beau and I followed along! I'm not a great drawer, but I really enjoy it, and I hope to get better, especially with their new series, I can't wait!!!
