She was a baby Grey Headed Flying Fox who was rescued from the Mudgeeraba area. Like Lana, she was found alone on the ground and was being attacked by birds. Daisy came into our care in November 2016 and was released in March 2017 Bats QLD is a not for profit organisation and we operate solely on donations and volunteers. Every day during this month we will be sharing this message along with a story of a bat that has been rescued and rehabilitated through our care. Across July we are raising funds to pay for fruit, orphan flying fox formula, protein powder, medical supplies, bedding, fabric, rescue supplies and general operating and running costs as a not for profit charity requires. Sua mãe tem um mamilo sob a axila, onde os bebês estão quase constantemente ligados ao leite. Nós tentamos imitá-lo usando tetas de raposa voadora especialmente em forma em suas garrafas e chupetas. Se eles não tiverem uma chupeta na boca, eles acham que a mãe os deixou e gritam angustiados. É para conforto e segurança. Eles abandonam quando começam a se tornar mais confiantes e aventureiros... #Repost @wingspawsnclaws • • • • • • Have you ever wondered why we give our flying foxes dummies/pacifiers, and why we wrap them up like batty burritos 🌯 🦇? Flying foxes can't fly for the first twelve weeks of age so cling to their mums bodies for dear life (even when she flies out in search of food at night). Their mum has a nipple under her armpit where the babies are nearly constantly attached feeding on milk. We try to mimic this using specially shaped flying fox teats on their bottles and pacifiers. If they don't have a pacifier in their mouth, they think their mum has left them and cry out in distress. It's for comfort and safety. They ditch it once they start to become more confident and adventurous. The babies are also wrapped in a way to mimic their mums. They cling to a 'mumma roll' which mimics their mums body, and the wrap around them mimics her wings 🦇 Flying foxes are amazing mothers. *bats are not pets* - I am a licensed and vaccinated wildlife rescuer and rehabilitator. Credit to @wingspawsnclaws : I recently visited a fruit shop on the other side of town that I had never been to, and I am so thankful I did! The wonderful owner gave me a box of rockmelon and watermelon that was close to going off, for free! Fruit has been costing me a lot, so this was such a huge help! - When you spit the dummy 👶 I've been away camping for two nights, so I'll be responding to the messages in my inbox today 😊 Here Bette and Capella are enjoying a cuddle in the sunlight. Capella was rescued after being found abandoned on the ground, covered in ants. He had wounds all over him, had to have a fingertip amputated, had pneumonia, and had a hole in his wing. The hole healed up beautifully over a few weeks, his pneumonia and finger healed up after surgery and medication, and his bites all over his body slowly disappeared. He and Bette have both since been released.
