Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Bathory: Countess of Blood is a historical film written and directed by Slovak film maker, Juraj Jakubisko. This was his first English-language film. The film stars Anna Friel as Elizabeth Bathory, Karel Roden as Gyorgy Thurzo and Hans Matheson as Merisi (Caravaggio). The film was a joint effort of Slovak, Czech, British and Hungarian and is one of the most expensive Czech films ever made.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Elizabeth Bathory (1560-1614) was a Hungarian noblewoman and serial killer. Bathory and four of her servants were accused of torturing and killing hundreds of girls and women from 1590 - 1610. Investigators allegedly found dying and imprisoned girls at the time of her arrest. Bathory was found guilty and was imprisoned within the Castle of Csejte where she died. Legends described Bathory as a woman obsessed with maintaining her youthful looks and that she would bath in virgin blood. Her legend, inspired stories of vampires and legends much like Dracula.
